Assault at PS 102

10/30/2015

Hi All,

We were notified that an assault occurred in the vicinity of PS 102 on Wednesday afternoon, 10/28.

DI Manson states that a 60+ year old Asian male was pushed to the ground from behind by another male. He was injured and hospitalized. Since the victim is 60+ years of age and was attacked by a younger person, the incident is considered a Felony Assault rather than an Assault. The attack appears to have been unprovoked and the 110th Precinct Squad is looking at the case. The attacker was described as a male black in his 50's. DI Manson said if anyone has any information about this incident, please contact the 110th Precinct Squad.

Btw, remember the forcible touching incident that occurred on Van Kleeck Street Tuesday morning? DI Manson said the victim was interviewed by the Detective Squad and has recanted her story. Apparently the male was drunk but never touched her. It is unknown as to why she said this happened in the first place.

Community Alert - Forcible touching incident in Elmhurst

10/29/2015

Hi All,

DI Manson, 110th Precinct, just called to let us know about an incident that occurred Tuesday morning and reported today.

The 22-year old white female victim was walking to the subway on Van Kleeck Street, 51 #s, on Tuesday morning, 10/27, approximately 1:15 am, when a male Hispanic ran up behind her, grabbed her breasts and fell on top of her. She screamed and he ran away. The 110th Precinct took a report for Forcible Touching.

DI Manson said he will have coverage in the area.

Please be alert at all times!!

Prostitution and car break-in

10/28/2015

Hi All,

Two incidents occurred in Elmhurst this week that you should be made aware of.

As a resident was walking home on Manila Street at approximately 7:00-7:30 pm on Saturday, October 24th, he was approached by a female who told him she could show him a good time for $100. Needless to say, he declined the offer. I spoke with DI Manson, 110th Precinct, who said if anyone is approached by a prostitute they can call 911 and file a report for Harassment. If a pattern emerges, he said they will conduct an operation in the area and make arrests.

I received an email from a resident who wanted to alert us about her husband's car being broken into on Gorsline Street this past weekend. She states there was no damage to the vehicle but a number of items were taken - about $500 worth of construction tools were among the items. She said the vehicle was parked in front of their house. She did not say whether the vehicle was locked or unlocked, nor did she say whether or not a police report was filed. DI Manson said he'll look to see if a report was taken. I'm sure he'll mention it at our meeting on Monday.

Our Comet meeting will be held this Monday, November 2nd, 7:00 pm at St. Adalbert Parish Center, lower level, 52-40 84th Street, Elmhurst.

If you see something, say something. Please remember to always lock your vehicle and don't leave anything in it!!!

Maspeth Town Hall reports trespassing

10/18/2015

Eileen Reilly, Executive Director of Maspeth Town Hall said that the shed at the rear of the property was tampered with. The incident was reported to the 104th Precinct.

She's asking anyone who lives or walks on 72nd Street and passes Maspeth Town Hall to keep an eye out and call 911 to report a suspicious person(s) if someone is seen on the property after closing time.

Comet has heard of incidents about suspicious people looking into yards so everyone needs to be alert.

Please make sure your garages and sheds are locked with nothing valuable left outside unattended and make sure your home is secured. Always keep your car doors locked and don't leave anything inside the vehicle.

If you see something, please report it!!

Members of the 104 Precinct responded to a‎ location in the vicinity of 58-XX 58 avenue and arrested a male white 16 years of age for shooting out windows with these 2 weapons. They are CO 2 guns that shoot metal BB pellets. They were also painted all black to appear that they were real. Thanks to the neighbors for alerting us.  - Captain Mark Wachter

Community alert - trouble in Maspeth & Ridgewood

10/15/2015

Hi All,

Captain Wachter, 104th Precinct, said they arrested a male black 35 years of age who was walking into backyards near 60-xx 53rd Street yesterdayafternoon. He wants to alert the neighbors to remain alert regarding people walking into rear yards. Keeping Maspeth Safe.

Captain Mackie, 104th Precinct, sent an email last night at about 9:30 pm to confirm that shots were fired on the street at 4-51 Grandview Avenue. Two shell casings were recovered. The 104th is conducting an investigation. He said there is no indication anyone was struck. Possibly three male blacks involved with white t-shirts and dreadlocks heading westbound on Himrod Street. He said he'll keep us advised.

Community Alert - Woodside/Winfield Burglaries and Car Theft!

10/13/2015

Hi All,

Captain Travaglia, 108th Precinct, wants to alert everyone about two burglaries and a car theft that occurred in Woodside/Winfield. The burglaries are right on the Maspeth border and not too far from Elmhurst. Everyone needs to be on alert!!!

On 10/8/2015, between the hours of 9:00 am and 9:00 pm., 51-00 #'s on 65th Place two locations were burglarized right next to each other. The front doors on both locations were damaged and entry was made by the perpetrator(s).

On 10/7/2015, in the vicinity of 48-00 #'s on 67th Street, a 1998 Toyota Corolla (auto) was stolen. It was double-parked and left running at the location prior to being stolen. It was recovered a couple of hours later in Pennsylvania.

Captain Travaglia is concerned with the two burglaries because a substantial amount of burglary recidivists are back out on the street due to parole, probation, time served, etc. and some live in our area. He said if anyone observes something unusual or out of place they should call and report it!!

  • If you see a suspicious person(s) in the area, call 911 and tell the Operator that there have been burglaries in the area and you don't recognize this person. You will not get into trouble if you are mistaken.
  • I'll be sending out more detailed info about an upcoming event where you can make an appointment with your Crime Prevention Officer for a freeHome Security Survey on Saturday, 10/17, 1-4 pm in Maspeth Federal's parking lot. They will give you cost effective tips on how to keep your home safe.
  • Please don't leave your vehicle unlocked. Almost all car break-ins are a result of unlocked vehicles!!

Vision Zero Initiative Throughout the 104 Precinct

10/7/2015

The 104 Precinct in conjunction with the Department of Transportation will be conducting a Vision Zero initiative throughout the confines of the 104 Precinct to educate the public at large about the core message of Vision Zero.

This message is to make a concerted effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians (who are at an increased risk for serious injuries) on city streets which result from careless driving. There are three E's which will help us achieve this mission "Education, Engineering and Enforcement".

Precinct Personnel along with DOT will be at the busiest intersections throughout the Precinct providing material which will help to explain Vision Zero. Here are some of these locations:

Fresh Pond Road and Metropolitan Avenue

69th Street and Grand Avenue

Woodhaven Boulevard and Cooper Avenue

Maurice Avenue and Borden Avenue

Please feel free to stop by and ask questions.

There will also be Variable Message Signs throughout the Precinct with messages for both motorist and pedestrians. Some of these signs are already up;

Cypress and Vermont Place

Myrtle Avenue and Fresh Pond Road

Metropolitan Avenue and 60 Street

69 Street and Grand Avenue

The last component of this Vision Zero Initiative will be enforcement. During the second week of the initiative (Monday, October 19, 2015) the Precinct will conduct enforcement throughout the Precinct. This enforcement will target hazardous violations which contribute to deaths and injuries on New York City streets.

 Some examples of these are:

Speeding, Improper Turns, Operating Phone/Texting and

Failure to Yield to Pedestrians - If a pedestrian is anywhere in the crosswalk/street you must yield until they are completely out of the street.

The Vision Zero Initiative will begin Monday, October 16, 2015 and run daily through Sunday, October 25, 2015. During the first week of the initiative the 104 Precinct and DOT will educate the public about Vision Zero. During the second week of the initiative the 104 Precinct will conduct Vision Zero related enforcement throughout the Precinct.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. See you out there!

Please follow us on Twitter @NYPD104PCT  during the entire initiative.
