DOT Bikeshare is coming to our District
Help To Spread the Word in your Community!

Beginning in 2011 and continuing today, the New York City Department of Transportation conducts an extensive public input process. This process involves holding community planning workshops and meeting with community boards, elected officials, and community stakeholders to gather input.

Over the next few weeks, Community Board 4 will be reviewing the plan as well as actively seek public input in advance of its June 13th Full Board meeting.

Information on the program and a map of proposed locations can be found by clicking below.

Citi Bike Expansion Draft Plan

Additionally, DOT provides the opportunity for those who may not be able to attend a public meeting to give feedback through a feedback portal, where people can comment on where they would like to see Citi Bike stations, as well as locations not suitable for a station.

Be sure to check out the FAQ, and if you still have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the program, please do not hesitate to use the portal above, or reach out to our office at [email protected], or call us at: 718 760 3141

Just Remember...
DOT needs public feedback, so we are sharing some printable flyers to share within your network:

Explosive incident in the 104 Pct

5/26/2023

Good evening,

The 104th Precinct would like to make you aware of an incident that took place earlier today.  On Thursday May 25, approximately 1149 police responded to a call for an explosion in the vicinity of Linden Street an Onderdonk Avenue.  Upon arrival the caller stated that she heard a loud explosion coming from her rooftop.  Upon searching the roof, officers found an exploded 2-liter Pepsi bottle and a bottle of Drain-O on the street near the location.  Video footage shows an individual mixing the chemicals into the Pepsi bottle and throwing it on the roof.  The NYPD Arson and Explosion Squad along with the NYPD Bomb Squad responded to the scene and ensured the Pepsi bottle was inert and that there was no threat or danger at the location. This incident is currently under investigation and there is one arrest at this time.

MTA Railroad Issues

5/22/2023

We have been reaching out to the MTA through Senator Gianaris' office to express concern about the lack of consideration that is given to our communities when they "maintain" their property and the railroad's right-of-way.
  • Cutting down trees and shrubs that act as a buffer zone to reduce train noise and clean our air. They have also been known to cut down vegetation on City property.
  • They hire contractors who use noxious chemicals to kill the vegetation which can cause health concerns for residents. These chemicals are also killing wildlife including feral cats who have been keeping the rodent population under control.
  • The lack of vegetation is not only causing the embankments to erode, but allows water from heavy rain to flood our homes because there's no vegetation to absorb the water.
  • The MTA makes no effort to clean the graffiti that covers their bridges, etc.
The Senator's office said they receive few complaints and in order to get the agency's attention we need people in Elmhurst, Woodside, Maspeth, Middle Village, Forest Hills and other communities to speak up. They can do this by reaching out to the Senator who covers their district.

We are urging folks to take a minute to either call or email their elected official. Since many of us who are affected reside in Senator Gianairis' district, his staff said they will direct anyone outside the district to the Senator in their respective district.

MENG HELPS CONVINCE POSTAL SERVICE TO BETTER ADDRESS SPIKE IN MAIL THEFT

5/16/2023

Agency rolls out plan after Congresswoman called for improved security of mail in Queens
QUEENS, NY – After calling on the United States Postal Service to do more to address the rise in mail theft, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that the agency has agreed to do so.
Over the past year, Meng has urged the Postal Service to combat the problem in Queens after she received many complaints from constituents who have been victims of mail theft. These include thieves stealing and altering their checks for thousands of dollars and taking their personal information that has resulted in financial fraud. The Congresswoman sent letters to postal officials last July and December to demand action, and as a result, the agency will replace tens of thousands of keys used by letter carriers, install high security collection boxes and implement other important upgrades.

“The spike in mail theft has impacted too many people in our borough and across the country and it’s time for the Postal Service to crack down harder on this despicable crime,” said Meng. “I thank the agency for listening to our pleas and implementing a plan to stop these robberies from occurring. I also thank postal officials for increasing efforts to combat the increased attacks against letter carriers. Everybody deserves to receive their mail and those who deliver it are entitled to be safe. I will be watching and monitoring these improvements rolled out by the Postal Service, and hope that they will swiftly lead to improved security of our country’s mail. New Yorkers and the American public deserve it.”

Several years ago, the Postal Service retrofitted blue collection boxes in Queens with mail slots after Meng, in 2018, urged the agency to address ‘mail fishing’ in the borough. The problem occurs when criminals place string connected to a sticky material into the collection boxes, and ‘fish’ out the envelopes. The narrower slots make it more difficult for thieves to steal the mail that is inside.

Meng also introduced legislation last month to strengthen the Postal Service’s ability to go after criminal organizations driving the theft of mail, and she is organizing a roundtable to shed light on local mail theft.
