Another Maspeth burglary

2/21/2016

Roe,

We just got a call from neighbors about a confirmed break-in at 67-xx 53rd Drive.  Neighbors called in for the owners who are away in Ireland. Unknown what was taken at this time but we are taking the report pending the owner's return.

There was a "Dummy Camera" affixed to exterior of the vacant house.

These are of no good if they don't record. We have had several instances recently where there are actual cameras in place, but they don't record. So when the bad guys come, they don't get caught on candid camera, which dramatically decreases our odds of ever catching them.

Please tell the gang, if you're going to invest in a camera, go all the way and make sure that camera is hooked up to a recording device so the footage is captured.

Teenager robbed at Hoffman Park

2/17/2016

DI Manson, 110th Precinct, called to alert us about a robbery that occurred last night in Elmhurst.

While a 15-year old male Hispanic was playing football in Hoffman Park at about 6:00 pm he was approached by two male Hispanics, approximately 17-years old. They asked him what time it was. When the victim took out his phone to look at the time they snatched the phone as well as a chain around his neck. They told the victim they had a gun which was never displayed.

Make sure your phone and jewelry is not displayed for robbers to see and be aware of your surroundings at all times!!

Burglaries in Maspeth

2/15/2016

February 12 at 0500am, we had a attempted burglary at rear of 58-22 58 Avenue. The victim noticed a male Hispanic approximately 17 years of age in her garage. When she approached the male ran eastbound on 58 Avenue. Please alert the neighbors to remain alert and install motion lights near their houses. I will be adding a extra patrol car to the Maspeth area to address this Burglary.
Capt. W

We had a residential burglary the afternoon of February 12, 58-00 numbers on 61st street. 3 floors, 1st and 3rd floors are under construction. Front door to the 2nd floor was locked, cv leaves in early afternoon, upon return in early evening door was unlocked and rear bedroom door to patio was also unlocked.  $1000 cash removed from the bedroom.  First floor rear which is empty was also unlocked/open.  The cv/reporter happens to be Asian.

Also to tag on that one, in January we had a very similar Residential Burglary in Cometland where the victims went out in the early evening and when they returned (tight time frame, within 2 hours) they discovered $3,000 cash missing from the bedroom dresser, nothing else taken, as if the perp knew exactly where to go. So in addition to not leaving large sums of cash inside your homes, please alert residents to limit access (extended relatives, guests, home health aides, or people inside the home doing construction or performing other services) to bedrooms, closets or other semi-private areas where valuables are likely to be found, whenever practicable. Also make sure these people are not seeing you placing valuables (cash, jewelry, etc) in hiding spots like drawers, dressers, closets, etc. Valuables should always be stored in a locked safe in a private area of the house, and large sums of cash should ALWAYS be deposited in the bank.

Be safe with your stuff!

NEW Overnight Q47 Calamus Avenue Detour

2/9/2016

This is to inform you of necessary overnight rerouting of the Q47 bus to accommodate DDC work related to their Calamus Ave project. Next week, from Monday, 2/8/16 through Sunday, 2/14/16, between the hours of 9 PM to 5 AM, 69th Street’s southbound travel lane between Queens Blvd and 47th Ave will be closed as DDC undertakes what we understand to be necessary “discovery test pit” sewer work beneath the LIRR overpass.

As a result, MTA Bus Company will have to temporarily detour southbound Q47 service between Garfield Ave and Queens Blvd to 70th Street from 69th Street. The northbound Q47 service will remain unchanged.

Community Alert - Thefts from Autos in Ridgewood / Maspeth

2/9/2016

There have been quite a few thefts from vehicles in the area. Most have occurred in different parts of Ridgewood, but a few have occurred in Maspeth. There have been a least 25 thefts from autos this year in total as of last Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Some of the vehicles had their windows broken, while some victims may have left their vehicle doors unlocked.

Some of the items that were stolen included cash, iPods / iPads, cellphones, GPS devices and even clothing.

The 104th Precinct encourages all residents to lock their vehicle doors and to not leave items of value inside their vehicles.

Many of these thefts from autos are crimes of opportunity. This is especially  the case if a criminal sees something of value sitting inside the vehicle.

The 104th Precinct has increased marked patrols and unmarked patrols in the areas where these thefts have occurred. In addition the 104th Detective Squad is actively investigating these thefts from vehicles. If you see any suspicious persons in and around vehicles please call 911.

Anyone with information regarding the thefts from autos should contact the 104th Precinct at 718-386-3004.
