Bank Robbery - Middle Village

On Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at approximately 3:25 pm, the Cross County Savings bank located at 80-10 Eliot Avenue Middle Village, NY was robbed by one male perpetrator. The perpetrator was described as a light skin male with a beard, age - 40's, height - 5'6, weight -approximately 230 lbs, wearing a black hooded sweater with a black hat.

The perpetrator fled the location in an unknown direction. No arrests were made at this time.

Maspeth graffiti cleanup this Saturday 5/2

The 104 Precinct will be hosting a Graffiti Clean-Up this Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 10 am. Please meet the 104 Precinct's Graffiti Coordinator Police Officer Gonzalez at one of the following (3) locations to assist:

(1)FLUSHING AVE & RUST ST (BIG WALL ON FLUSHING)
(2)GRAND AVE & RUST or
(3) GRAND AVE & 57TH ST.

Public lewdness in Elmhurst

On Monday, April 27, 2015 at approximately 2:00 pm while a student was waiting at the bus stop near the corner of 80th Street and 54th Avenue in Elmhurst, a blue 4 door sedan driven by an Asian male in his 30's pulled up and he performed a lewd act while in his vehicle. The vehicle fled in an unknown direction.

Both the 110 Precinct and the 104 Precinct will increase patrols in the area of concern. If anyone has information regarding this incident please contact the 110 Precinct at 718-476-9311.

Precinct Updates

No new crime update for Maspeth from the 104th Precinct other than the emails I've been blasting out during the past 28 days.

In the 110th Precinct, other than the shooting on Hoffman Drive/Woodhaven in Elmhurst which you already know about, we had a motorcycle stolen on 52ndAvenue/Van Horn.

All of our precincts continue to have a problem with Grand Larcenies, identity theft, scams, etc. Please don't give out personal information on the phone even if your caller ID says it's from your bank, IRS, etc..

Captain Lavonda Wise, Executive Officer at the 108th Precinct, told us that we had two burglaries in Woodside. Both occurred on April 10th, and both entries into the homes were made through the front door - locks were broken. (It's not common to see burglars break into houses through the front when they can go to the rear where they won't be seen.) One location was 58th/48th Avenue and the other was 60th/48th Avenue.

Keep in mind that burglars tend to move around and since this not far from the 104th Precinct border it's important that Maspeth residents keep a lookout too.

Important FYI from Captain Mackie, 104th Precinct. This Grand Larceny occurred in Maspeth - but it's happening everywhere. I know most of you are cautious and don't do this but please pass on to your neighbors and make them aware.

Hi Roe,

Not to alarm you or the neighborhood but we have experienced an uptick in Grand Larcenies with the warmer weather, specifically with unattended property removed from automobiles. Yesterday a locked car was broken into at the corner of 55 Street and Grand Avenue and property removed. The common thread I am noticing with these crimes is that valuables are being left inside of these cars. These items invariably include personal jewelry/wristwatches, GPS devices, bluetooth headsets, sets of other keys, i.e. to a second vehicle, and debit/credit cards.

The GPS, even if stored in a compartment, is easily identifiable to a thief by either the adapter wires/charger left on the console, and the "rings" left on the inside of the windshield glass by the suction cups. Credit and debit cards are commonly being left inside vehicles as well, as evident in most of our crime reports involving vehicle break-ins. Once the credit/debit card is appropriated, the offense automatically becomes a felony (grand larceny), and until the victim becomes aware of the theft and places a stop on the transactions, the thief can make numerous charges on these cards.

Please send this crime alert out to the neighborhood; the best defense against being a victim of this type of crime is to never leave any valuables (particularly the ones mentioned above) stored inside your car, in plain view or in compartments (even trunks) at any time while parked and unattended.

Community alert - Criminal Trespass arrests

Hi All,

Captain Mackie, 104th Precinct Executive Officer, wants to let us know that four individuals were arrested last night for Criminal Trespass in Maspeth.

He said that last night at 11:25 pm 104th Precinct units responded to a "10-30 (Robbery in Progress)" of a residence at 54 #s on 63rd Place. Upon their arrival, a nearby neighbor reported seeing a possible break-in at the unoccupied residence. Responding officers saw movement through a window in the garage and apprehended four (4) individuals (1 male/25, 1 male/24, 1 female/20 and 1 female/juvenile) from the garage.

The four individuals, who are from our area, were found in possession of a small amount of marijuana and were charged with Criminal Trespass and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

There were no signs of forced entry. He said it is a newly renovated home that is presently unoccupied. They were not able to find the owner at the location.

We want to thank the 104th for their quick response and especially the neighbor who saw something and called 911!

Reminder - be alert and call 911 if you see anything suspicious. Now that warm weather is finally arriving, burglars will be looking for a target. Keep your doors, windows and sheds locked at all times. Don't leave bicycles, lawn mowers or other tools outside unattended.

If you see something, say something - you will not get into trouble if you are mistaken!
