“Over the past days, I have been going throughout the district and reporting to the Sanitation Department key areas that are in need of plowing. I have prioritized those blocks that have residents with medical conditions or seniors. As I continue to survey the district, if I can be of any assistance to a specific area, please call either district office with detailed information.”
“I have utmost respect for the Department of Sanitation workers, and I thank them and others for their efforts following the blizzard. I am disappointed and bothered by the lack of priority given to the residential side streets throughout our communities many hours after the snowfall. These streets remained unplowed and unmanageable for emergency vehicles, people on their way to work and those who had doctor appointments. Given the amount of notice that this sizable snow storm was coming and the hours that passed after the storm, having the streets not plowed was totally unacceptable.”

NYC DOT will also be holding a public hearing about this issue on Tuesday, January 4th at 1 pm at their lower Manhattan office located at 55 Water Street, BID Room A.
Comments may be submitted to DOT prior to the January 4th hearing by writing to Queens Borough Commissioner Maura McCarthy by regular mail to 120-55 Queens Boulevard, Room 285, Kew Gardens, NY 11424 or by e-mail to: [email protected] FYI - COMET had contacted our elected officials asking them to request that Community Board 5 hold this public hearing in Maspeth, i.e. Martin Luther HS, Kowalinski Post or St. Stan's since this issue affects Maspeth residents and we wanted to make it easy for folks to attend. Obviously Community Board 5 found it more convenient to hold it in Middle Village. If you can't make either hearing, please make an effort to either write or e-mail DOT to support this conversion!! The 44-year old con man, who was arrested by the 108th Precinct, had his day in court. We have been told he took a "plea" deal and the little creep only received a sentence of 60 days. Oh, don't assume he'll spend the entire 60 days in jail - knowing how the system works he'll probably be released early for "good behavior". If we find out when he's released we'll notify you. It is very upsetting to know that this individual received so little time after he conned dozens of kind-hearted residents in Maspeth, Elmhurst and other communities for money by telling them he needed it to pick up a prescription for his sick mother. Rest assured this creep will soon be back on the street pulling his scam on other unsuspecting people. Hopefully people will call 911 not if, but when he comes back to our neighborhood. We want to thank everyone for getting the word out. We especially want to thank and commend those of you who were victimized and stepped forward. COMET plans to give the officer who arrested this creep an award at our February 7th meeting. We do not meet in January.
