Elmhurst - 2 arrests inside abandoned house

9/30/2017

Hi All,

Captain Ventre, 110th Precinct, just called to let us know that his officers visited the empty house at 82-11 Grand Avenue and made two arrests.

One male had a Bench Warrant and will be taken to court. The other male will be released shortly.

These arrests came as a result of one of our COMET members calling 911. He has been keeping an eye on several locations where houses have been abandoned.

If you see any activity in any of our empty homes, call 911 immediately!

We want to thank our member for his vigilance and the 110th officers who followed through on the complaint.

Change in traffic pattern

9/21/2017

Beginning next week, Tues, Sept 26, the contractor for the bridge deck replacement of Metropolitan Ave and Fresh Pond Rd over LIRR will return to the Stage 1 construction configuration. On Tuesday the contractor will begin the roadway striping, which will be followed by the relocation of the barrier back into the middle of Metropolitan Avenue.

Metropolitan Avenue was reopened with all lanes in July to accommodate the shuttle buses for the M Train work that occurred during July and August.

On Saturday at 0930 hours, we had an unknown person snatch a female's purse, while she was walking on 55 Road & Seabury.  No further description.

Hope to see you all at our meeting tomorrow!

Street repaving schedule

9/18/2017

Hi All,

Some streets will be repaved next week. See the link for details

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/downloads/pdf/qnresurf.pdf

For those of you Woodside folks, the repaving of Calamus is being done separate from this list since you'll be getting new curbs and sidewalks as well as the street repaving supposedly by November. If it's not too cold, maybe we should have a big block party to celebrate the end of the Calamus Avenue sewer nightmare! lol

Burglary updates

9/14/2017

Hi All,

We received the following notification from the 110th Precinct:
We have another burglary in Sector B -  51-XX CODWISE PLACE, BSMT, TUESDAY, 08/15 thru 09/11- 1700 – 2200 HOURS, RESIDENCE- (ENTRY-REAR BASEMENT DOOR) , FOUND APT RANSACKED, REMOVED CLOTHING & LAPTOP.
The 104th Precinct passed along the following info. We'll probably get more specific info at our COMET meeting this Monday:

"Getting a lot of burglaries (residential), rear entry with a bolt cutter 74th Street and 69th Street. A commercial burglary on Grand Avenue."

If you see any suspicious activity, please call 911 and tell the Operator we've had burglaries in the area and there is a suspicious person(s) lurking around.

COMET Meeting, Monday, September 18th, 7:00 pm,
St. Adalbert Parish Center, 52-40 84th Street, lower level.

This info was forwarded to us by the 110th Precinct. This is close to Woodside and Maspeth so everyone needs to be on the alert. If you see anything suspicious, call 911!!
Inside of 54-XX 80 ST (FRONT DOOR-ENTRANCE) WED 09/13 FROM 0700-1430 HRS, JEWELRY REMOVED.
Det. Thomas Bell, 104th Precinct, followed up with more specifics regarding the Maspeth burglaries:
  • 52-XX 74th Street - Burglary occurred sometime between 11:00 am on August 16th and 2:00 pm on August 17th. Entry was made by damaging basement door frame. Items were stolen.
  • 74-XX Grand Avenue (commercial) - August 25th, entry was made through the basement door. Items stolen.
  • 53-XX 67th Street - August 25th, between 9:00 pm and 11:30 pm. Pry marks on rear door but no entry. Two males were involved.
  • 52-XX 72nd Street - September 2nd, incident occurred between the hours of 8:37 pm and 11:20 pm. Two males were involved.
Please note that these burglaries occurred at night which is rare for residential burglaries because that's when folks are usually home.

Make sure your home is secured before you go to bed and keep the rear of your home lit.
If you're going out, make sure no one is watching you leave the house.
Let your neighbors know what's going on!!

I'm sure this will be discussed at our meeting this Monday.
