Be on the Lookout!!

11/30/2021

Picture
At approximately 2:26 am this morning, November 30th, the individual in the attached photo was seen opening the gate and entering a yard on 70th Street between 52nd Drive and 53rd Avenue. This person tried the car door and left. He also went into a yard with a camera several doors down. Little can be done if you catch someone in your yard and no crime was committed. However, if you have a 'No Trespassing" sign on your property the police can get the individual's name and the end result might be the issuance of a Desk Appearance Ticket. The upside is that the police will now know who may be responsible for breaking into cars. The photo isn't the best, but if you think you recognize the individual send the info to our 104th Community Affairs Officer PO Berish at: michael.berish@nypd.org

Someone sent us something from social media posted by a resident who said that cars were allegedly being broken into along Grand Avenue in Maspeth between Stop & Shop and the motel. If no police reports were filed, our officers are unaware that anything ever happened. Let's hope the vandalism was reported.

We heard from someone in Elmhurst who said a neighbor spotted about five cars deeply "keyed" on Jacobus Street near 51st Avenue. I asked our 110th Precinct NCO Martinez to check and he said no one filed a report. No report means "nothing happened".

Our officers patrol areas where crime is being reported. It may seem fruitless to report vandalism to your car or to report something was stolen from it, but we may see more police presence in our communities if they believe crimes are occurring. Call 911 and tell the Operator you need someone to take a report for a past time. The police will not come immediately because it's not an emergency, but it's now documented crimes are occurring in our area.

Our December COMET meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 6th and we'll send out the Zoom info towards the end of the week so you don't forget.

Please stay alert and if you get up during the night look out your window. If you see a suspicious person call 911 and give the Operator a description of the person and what he/she is doing. It's important we send a clear message that our neighborhood is watching!!

Good afternoon,

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is conducting seasonal collections for leaves in December. The material collected is diverted from landfills, and instead used to create compost.

This service is available to all Queens residents and those wishing to participate can set out leaves they’ve collected in paper leaf bags or unlined rigid bins on the curb after 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 11.

More information about this service can be found here: nyc.gov/leafcollection.

Thank you, and stay well,
Sid

Two incidents occurred within the 104 Precinct.

11/19/2021

Two incidents occurred within the 104 Precinct.

At approximately 5:38 pm, police responded to a motor cycle accident in the vicinity of Cooper Avenue and Irving Avenue.  A preliminary investigation shows that the motorist of the motorcycle was traveling Westbound on Cooper Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control and fell off the motorcycle resulting in serious injuries.  The motorist was removed to Wyckoff Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  This incident is currently being investigated by our Collision Investigation Squad.

Also late this evening police responded to a protest in Middle Village, within the confines of the 104 Precinct.  Multiple department resources were dispatched to the vicinity of 77 Place and 58 Road where there was a large crowd causing property damage to vehicles.  This incident resulted in 5 arrests and the crowd dispersing.  If anyone has property damage to their residence of vehicle please call 911 to file a police report.

As always feel free to write or call.
