In response to complaints raised by COMET members about the graffiti in Elmhurst, we are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00 am, Council Member Karen Koslowitz will be at 57th Avenue/85th Street to kickoff a cleanup of the railroad overpass. Her office was told this is the first extensive cleanup of the bridge in 60 years! Members of the Bethzatha Church will also be attending. We are hopeful to see other locations in Elmhurst cleaned in the near future. I am hopeful that you can attend and support Council Member Koslowitz' efforts.
Because of COMET's concern about the recent car thefts in our area the 104th Precinct has agreed to hold a VIN Etch this Monday, 6/27 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in Maspeth Federal's parking lot before everyone starts to leave for summer vacation. It doesn't matter what community you live in. The event will be rescheduled in the event of rain. By having your vehicle VIN etched, you will not only deter car theives but may save $$ on your theft insurance. You can also schedule a free home security survey and get some inexpensive tips on how to prevent becoming a victim of a burglary. See attached flier. Please pass on to friends and family. If you are a business, please post in a visible location. If you have some free time and would like to volunteer to help PO Barberio and COMET, let us know. Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
I promised to update you if there is anything you need to be aware of in the Maspeth area. Not surprisingly, we're having a car theft problem (GLAs) on the border with the 108th Precinct. In order for you to see a clear pattern between the two communities, I'm listing the locations in Maspeth that were just given to me by the 104th and below that the GLAs in the Woodside area that were already sent to you and given to us by the 108th at our meeting on Monday. Crime can happen anywhere so EVERYONE always needs to be alert. However, it is imperative that those of you who live on the Maspeth/Woodside border and in Elmhurst near Calamus/51st Avenues be especially alert to any suspicious vehicles driving around. If you are hesitant to call 911, get as much info as you can and pass it on to me. I'll give it to our precincts. The Maspeth burglaries follow the GLAs. If you see a stranger on your neighbor's property, call 911 immediately!! Maspeth 104th GLAs (car thefts)
COMET participated in the Maspeth Memorial Day Parade once again this year. Below are photos of the event. |
