DUE BY FRIDAY, 2/24 - Queens Community Task Force Against Illegal Truck Parking

2/21/2023

We just received this from the Queens Borough President. Please take a minute to complete the survey ASAP if you have concerns about overnight commercial parking.

Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers and others have reached to me to remind us to complete the SURVEY below on overnight truck parking.  PLEASE COMPLETE THE SURVEY BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, AND PLEASE FORWARD IT TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS AND RESIDENTS.  The more information we can provide the Mayor's Citywide Task Force about our issues and concerns the better.

About the Survey

City Hall has convened a Task Force with relevant City agencies to address overnight truck parking in NYC and to assess potential solutions. New York City has existing regulations prohibiting commercial vehicles from parking on residential streets overnight but, as you are aware the problem has persisted, particularly in outer borough neighborhoods. With the increased use of freight and expected industry growth, the City needs to examine the trends and data, and come up with solutions that will be long term and sustainable.

Elmhurst - BE ON THE LOOKOUT!

2/14/2023

This past Saturday, February 11th, at approximately 5:00 am, a man with a hoodie carrying a backpack was seen on three residents' cameras trying car door handles. He was going into front yards/driveways on the entire block of 54 #s on 55th Avenue as well as Madison Street. He was also checking doors of cars parked on the street.

If you see suspicious activity like this, call 911 immediately!

You will note from the video this individual was on a bike making it easy to travel to different areas. He can possibly land up in Maspeth or Middle Village!

Please folks, if you are a victim of a crime it needs to be reported. If our precincts don't get any reports they assume nothing is happening here. Call 911 and officers will come to take a report.

Representative Meng Wants Your Input on Infrastructure Projects

2/14/2023

If Grace Meng is your congress person and you like this suggestion, please fill out this form and request that the LIE in Maspeth be decked over. The decking would provide open space for the community and hide the polluting expressway. A map is attached.

Elmhurst - 2023 Citi Bike Expansion

2/10/2023

The following info was sent to COMET:

I’m reaching out from the Department of Transportation’s Bike Share & Shared Mobility team to notify you that Citi Bike will be expanding into Queens Community Boards 3 and 4, which includes Jackson Heights, Corona, Elmhurst, and East Elmhurst.

As you may know, Citi Bike’s Phase 3 expansion is a five-year growth of New York City’s successful Citi Bike program that will double the size of the service area, covering all of Manhattan and significant portions of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, and increase the system’s fleet to 40,000 bikes.

I wanted to highlight that we are opening our online feedback map as part of the planning process to collect suggestions from the public on where Citi Bike stations should be located within CB 3 and 4.

Citi Bike’s success is based on strong community feedback. Please circulate this link via email, newsletter, or social media pages. For the language of posts, here are the posts our social media team made about the feedback map (Facebook and Twitter). Please add in your own suggestions!

We’re more than happy to meet to discuss further or answer any questions you may have regarding this expansion. Thank you & I hope to hear back!
