Elmhurst burglary

1/24/2018

Hi All,

Captain Ventre, 110th Precinct, wants to let us know that this past Friday, 9:10 pm, there was a burglary at 82-xx 51st Avenue.

Two perpetrators, one entered through an unlocked window, second perpetrator was let in through the rear door. When the owner surprised the perpetrators they fled without taking any property.

Captain Ventre wants everyone to pass the word. This could be part of a pattern. He also wants to remind folks to lock all windows and doors!!

We never know what house a burglar will target, but we can tell you from past experience that they move around so as not to get caught. Maspeth and Middle Village are getting burglaries so it's no surprise Elmhurst was targeted - and Woodside is right down the block. Everyone needs to be on the alert!!

Hi All,

Det. Thomas Bell, 104th Community Affairs, wants folks to know that we had another burglary in Maspeth:
  • 12/23 - 70 #s/53rd Drive - perpetrator entered through side unlocked bedroom window, stole items and exited through the front door. The homeowner had cameras indicating the burglary took place between 8:00-8:15 pm.
If you believe someone tried to enter your home, please make a police report. The police to need to know where to focus their efforts!

I'm listing the burglaries below that I sent out in a prior blast so you can see what areas are being targeted.

Prior burglaries:
  • 12/18  - 51-xx 70th Street - homeowner was notified her front window alarm went off between 1:30-1:35 pm. she returned home immediately and found the window lock had been broken. It is unknown why the perpetrator didn't enter the house but suspect something/someone "spooked" him.
  • 12/10 - 53-xx 67th Street - between 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm, rear entry.
  • 12/6 - 51-xx 67th Street - between 10:40 am - 9:00 pm, rear entry.
  • 11/30 - 52-xx 69th Street - between 3:30 pm - 7:45 pm, rear entry.

Kick Off the New Year at the Elmhurst Stop ‘N’ Swap®

1/17/2018

Jan 16, 2018, Queens, NY –New Yorkers looking to trade in last year’s fashions for some new-to-you looks or free up space by clearing out unwanted clutter are in luck! The Elmhurst Stop ‘N’ Swap®, a free reuse event organized by local non-profit GrowNYC, is the ultimate re-gifting party.

WHAT: Free Stop ‘N’ Swap Community Reuse Event

WHEN: Saturday, January 20, 12pm-3pm

WHERE: PS 13 Clement C. Moore, 5501 94th St, Queens, NY

The public is invited to bring clean, portable, reusable items to share with those who can use them. No one is required to bring something to take something — you can simply show up with a bag and see what’s free for the taking. Books, toys, fashionable clothing, housewares and electronics are just some of the offerings.

Stop ‘N’ Swaps have developed a regular following among thrifty and environmentally conscious New Yorkers.  In response to increasing demand for the events, GrowNYC has set a goal of hosting one swap in each of the city’s 59 community districts each year.

Anything leftover at the end of the day is donated or recycled. Furniture and other large items are not accepted at the swap.
