104 Pct to undertake major graffiti cleanup

9/23/2014

Hi All,

Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, wants us to know that he is planning a VERY LARGE graffiti clean up operation in our area in the next several weeks.

He wants us to compile a list of locations, including commercial buildings, that need cleaning over the next two weeks. If the building is brick, you need to specify that. Please include addresses. If it is a stretch with no houses, provide the street and cross streets.

This cleanup encompasses Maspeth and the Winfield section of Woodside that is located in the 104th Precinct.

I am sending this to everyone so you can pass it along to anyone you know in the targeted area.

When your list is compiled, please send it to me at cbmaspeth@gmail.com and I'll pass all the information on to the 104th Precinct.

Thanks Captain Manson!!

Community Alert- Microsoft Scam

9/23/2014

The 104 Precinct has taken a report from a victim who states that he was contacted via phone by someone who alleged they worked for Microsoft.  This perpetrator proceeded to illicit the victim's IP (Internet Protocol) address and gain remote access the victim's computer. At this time the perpetrator told the victim that he had a virus on his computer and would need to purchase virus software to get rid of the virus. The victim gave the perpetrator his banking account information and the perpetrator attempted to make multiple withdrawals from the account. The victim in this case did however contact his bank in time and cancelled his account.

This victim figured it out before it was too late! The 104 Precinct does not want you to become a victim, this type of crime is preventable. As I have stated in past alerts this call was unsolicited (meaning the victim was called, he never contacted Microsoft). Be leery of unsolicited calls period, especially those that request payment immediately! If you did not call them, hang up and contact that provider directly via the numbers you have for the provider. Never call the number that they person provides. If it is a legitimate call any customer service representative can assist you further. Although some of hour scams are targeted (example: elderly), this type of scam targets anyone who will listen.

Never give out your personal or bank information to anyone you do not know!  This crime is preventable, please do not become a victim.

If you have any questions regarding the above scam or any others please do not hesitate to contact me.

Arrest in Elmhurst and upcoming events

9/12/2014

Hi All,

PO Janine Rivera, 110th Precinct, called to let us know that the Special Victims Unit (SVU) and the Robbery Squad made an arrest for the attempted rape/sexual abuse of a 23-year old woman on Elmhurst Avenue on August 16th. The arrest was made yesterday. Great news!

Rally Against Plane Noise!

Please don't forget the upcoming rally this Sunday, 9/14 at 1:00 pm at Cunningham Park. Rally will be held near Union Turnpike/Francis Lewis Boulevard.

We have enough noise and air pollution with the LIE, BQE, Queens Boulevard, etc. It's time we all step up to protect our environment!!

Smile on Maspeth Day!

Fun for the kids! This Sunday, 9/14 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Maspeth Federal Parking lot, 69th Street/Grand Avenue.

Photos of Elmhurst dumping

9/10/2014

Did some driving around and saw a bunch of stuff by our abandoned house. Will load the pictures and send them to you and call 311 too.  Pictures attached, will email the 311 # later.

Found several mattresses laying around the streets. 2 just by the abandoned house.  1 on Queens Blvd and 57th Avenue, across from The Rock Church. 1 by the railroad tracks right by out Meeting site, corner of 85th Street and 57th Avenue.

In the back of the house, there are some PVC fences that weren't there before. So, unsure if someone is dumping stuff there or someone is dragging it there to store it.

All the shopping carts, the kind you bring groceries home in, were moved too from under the tarp.  They are now out front of the house but chained up to a pole about a hundred feet away.
