Storm aftermath update

9/20/2010

The two tornadoes and the macroburst of winds up to 125 mph on Thursday, September 16 downed hundreds of trees and caused considerable damage to buildings and power lines in the six communities of my Council District. City Agencies have coordinated a remarkable cleanup effort and I ask your patience as we proceed.

While NYC Parks Department has a full complement of forestry crews in the field with support from city agencies including the Fire Department, the Police Department, the Department of Sanitation and the Department of Transportation.  They are all making significant progress in clearing secondary roadways but there is still much to be done. The damage and debris left in the wake of the storm will take a lot of time and effort to clean up.

I am reaching out to you to volunteer at our public sites and cemeteries to assist.  Please call my office at 718-366-3900 or sign up on-line at ECrowley@council.nyc.gov. Homeowners should detail all damage to their property by calling 311. Specify the Sept 16 tornado when placing a complaint.
