FYI - homeless couple with dog

Hi All,

For the past week I've been hearing that there is a homeless couple living on the footbridge near Mazeau Street. Under normal circumstances this would not be an issue, however this couple has a pit bull that acts aggressively and folks are concerned that it will jump on them as they try to walk past.

PO Shoy, our Neighborhood Coordination Officer (NCO), has been looking into the situation and Captain Perry personally went to the location today and spoke with the female. The female told Captain Perry that she and her fiancee willing to get help and go to a shelter but are not willing to give up the dog. Just so you know, the law allows them to occupy the footbridge with their dog.

The Captain is looking into ways to address the community's concerns and also help the homeless couple and their dog. Until a solution is reached, we ask residents to be cautious when crossing the footbridge and don't encourage anyone to walk across it with a pet.

Rats!

Hi All,

I just want to alert folks that there has been a rat infestation on 58th Avenue between 59th Street and Grand Avenue. The offices of Assemblyman Barnwell and Councilman Holden have reached out to the Department of Health to report the concern. The agency did an inspection and the front of all the properties on the strip will be abated, but it will be up to the homeowners to take appropriate action in their homes and rear yards. We have no idea what is causing the infestation because there is no construction in the area that might have disturbed their nests.

In addition to 58th Avenue, rats have been spotted in the vicinity of 61st Street as well as in the vicinity of the railroad tracks in Elmhurst. Although there haven't been any sightings, northern Maspeth has been contending with drilling as as a result of the installation of new gas lines and this may stir up a problem.

Check your yards and look for any holes. This is a telltale sign you have a problem. Make sure you have tight lids on your garbage cans. Rats do go into homes for food, water and shelter and can cause extensive damage.

No matter where you live, we're asking folks to keep an eye out and report any activity immediately!

Hello

Just wanted to keep you informed on what’s happening in sector C.

We took 2 recent burglary.

Wednesday 29th in the afternoon, area of Grand Ave & 57 St. ( Electronics removed from commercial van).
Thursday 30th around 3am, area of Grand Ave & Fresh Pond Rd. (Tools removed from commercial Van).

Previous week 2 burglary.
Residential burglary 69 Lane & 57 Dr bicycle removed from locked garage.

Residential burglary Suydam St & Woodward Ave Unknown person did break into basement. (Nothing removed)
