Community alert - commercial burglary

2/26/2014

Hi All,

Captain Brian Hennessy, 108th Precinct, has advised us that at approximately 7:00 pm last night, 2/25, a gunpoint robbery occurred at 69-20 48th Avenue, a taxi leasing company. Three male black perpetrators entered as business was closing, displayed firearms and removed about $15,000. This is the business that parks livery cars in the vicinity of St. Mary's.

If you know any business owners in the area, please remind them not to keep large amounts of cash in their business, be alert and make sure no one is watching their comings and goings.

Community alert - more burglaries!

2/21/2014

DI Leyson, 110th Precinct, recently told us about a burglary that occurred on 2/18 at 7900 numbers on Calamus Avenue. This location, and the following residential location, may be part of a pattern that has spilled over from the north side of Queens Boulevard.

Both these residential locations are on the Maspeth/Woodside border and the commercial location is a short distance from Maspeth/Middle Village!

PO Saponieri gave us the following:
  • 2/11, 82 #'s on Ankener Avenue, residential, forced front door entry. Cameras show two male Hispanics.
  • 2/13, 85 #'s on 57th Avenue, commercial location, rear padlock broken, $200 and keys stolen.
We're used to hearing about homes being broken into through the rear or side. This time the perpetrators are prying open the front door. If you see anyone suspicious lurking at a neighbor's front door, call 911!

Roe,

We had a Burglary on 7900 block of Calamus yesterday.  it happened between 9:45AM and 4:00PM.  The basement door was pried open and house ransacked.  Cash, Jewelry and Gold Bars were removed from the victim.

Have everyone be alert.  The Last Burglary we had in the area two male Hispanics were seen and fled on foot.  Any suspicious persons must be reported to 911 immediately for us to investigate.

Car break-ins and scams

2/13/2014

FYI - from 110th Precinct:

"We had 4 cars broken into around 8:00 PM last night in the parking lot of the Nevada Diner.  Electronics, including a $2,400 Macbook Pro and credit cards were taken from several cars (in more than one car the owner left their wallet with Credit Cards in the cars).  One victim was only in the diner for about 5 minutes.

Also around the same time a car was broken into in the parking lot of the Bally's Gym.  An Apple Macbook Pro and iPad were stolen from this vehicle.

PLEASE remind people NOT to leave valuables in the vehicles unattended, even for a few minutes!!!!

Also, I have had SEVERAL Green Dot Scams reported recently (not necessarily in Cometland).  People have been called by "the IRS" stating they owe money and fees and instructed to go to the drug store and buy Green Dot Money Pack Cards and call them back or wait for a callback from them and give them the serial numbers from the cards.  One victim bought cards totaling $32,000 (that is not a typo - 32k) and another for over $3,000.

PLEASE pass along to ALL friends and families that NO reputable company or ANY Governmental agency will call and request immediate payment for overdue taxes, utility bills or bail for a "jailed" family member.  NO legitimate company or agency of any type will request you to go to the drug store for a pre paid card to give them the serial number from. THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!

Also, keep an eye out for suspicious persons or vehicles in the neighborhood. there have been a couple Burglaries in the area (I will have PO Rivera get you the exact locations as I am out sick).  Let the police investigate, do not wait, do not approach or challenge suspicious people, CALL THE POLICE.

Sorry for all the news."

Community alert - Grand Larceny Auto and register thefts

2/10/2014

Hi All,

Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, called to alert us about two crimes in our area. He also mentioned that Captain Travaglia has been transferred to the 114th Precinct. This is devastating news! He knew all the problems in our community and helped with our traffic and parking problems. Captain Brown will be the new Executive Officer and will be introducing himself to us. Hopefully he will pick up where Captain T left off.

More bad news!
  • Sometime between 2/3 and 2/8, a 2001 Chrysler Sebring was stolen from 73rd/52nd Ct. Don't know how they managed to do it with all the snow!
  • On 2/9, at 69-08 Grand Avenue, 2:30 am, a male was seen on camera entering through a walk up window that was left unlocked. He opened the door for a second male. Two cash registers were stolen with approximately $700.
Crime obviously doesn't take a holiday even during inclement weather. Please be alert!

Hello everyone, unfortunately there has been a recent increase in pedestrians being struck by vehicles within the Elmhurst/Corona area. In an effort to remind the community to be aware of their surroundings I have attached this pedestrian safety pamphlet to pass along to your respective members. Thanks again as always for spreading the word! You guys are the best!
