Community Alert: Mirror theft

3/15/2012

See the alert from Captain Cody, 104th Precinct.  As usual, this isn't far from the 108th and 110th borders.  Everyone needs to be alert- these crooks move around!  If you are a victim - please report it so the NYPD knows where to look!!!
________

We had 7 thefts of side view mirrors reported yesterday on 72 Street from 53-54 Avenues

They apparently happened overnight and various model vehicle including 2 Mercedes-Benz and 2 Chevy trucks

I checked with the 108 and 110 and they had nothing similar thus far

I have the late shift focusing on area and please let all know if they see something to call ASAP as we had no 911 calls from area-residents who woke up to these crimes

Community Alert: Attempted GLAs

3/9/2012

At approximately 1:00 am this morning a Comet member saw two, what appeared to be youths trying car doors and looking into cars with flashlights on Ireland Street (This is near IS 5 on 51st Avenue).  He called 911 - the 110th Precinct responded in 9 minutes.  The 110th cruised the adjoining blocks.  The results of the NYPD canvass is unknown to the complainant. One perpetrator was short and wearing a white hoodie and the other was tall wearing a gray sweat. Once again, this is on the 110th/108th/104th border.  These thieves know no borders and could easily make their way a couple of blocks down 51st Avenue into Woodside.  Calamus Avenue, the border of all 3 precincts, is one block off 51st Avenue and gives the perpetrators easy access to Maspeth.
  • Before you go to bed at night, take a moment to look out your window.  If you need to use the restroom during the night, look out the window - some of the best observations are made during early morning hours.
  • Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.  Be prepared to give a description of the suspect(s), vehicle if one is involved and the direction they were headed.  You will not get into trouble if you call 911 and are mistaken - you are looking out for the safety and well-being of your community.
  • If you are a victim, please file a report!  The NYPD keeps a record of where crimes are occurring and sends officers to the affected area to catch the perpetrators.  If reports aren't being filed, the NYPD can only assume there is no crime in our area.

Community Alert: Crime stats

3/6/2012

Hi Everyone,

Those of you who attended our meeting last night heard the crime stats.  For those of you who weren't there, you need to be alert.

I just heard there was a burglary or an attempted burglary yesterday during the day on 52nd Road/73rd Street while someone was home.  The 104th responded.  This is right on the 104th/108th/110th Precinct borders.  You will note below that some incidents listed occurred in the area known as the Maspeth horseshoes.  The activity here has quieted down since the 104th arrested perpetators in last week or so but that doesn't mean that folks can let their guard down.  West Maspeth folks need to be viligent.  The Winfield area has been hit. Elmhurst folks are right on the border of the activity and it can easily come over the border to you!

Our precincts are aware of what's going on and are actively looking into it - but they can't be everywhere.  There's a possibility that the scrap metal people (scrappers) might be responsible for some of the crime - but don't discount anyone who looks suspicious.  Call 911!  Please pass this on to folks in the area.
