In the vicinity of 50 & 64 St an unidentified perpetrator did remove $40 USC, Sunglasses worth $350 and a Chase Sapphire Visa Card from an unlocked vehicle.  This constitutes a Grand Larceny, a felony, due to the credit card being stolen.   I will leave the crime prevention tips this week to Capt Wacther and Capt Mackie at the 104th Precinct.

Crime Alerts - Burglaries

8/30/2015

Although the 104th Precinct has been down about 10% in crime this year (2015), it is important that you the residents of the 104 Precinct continue to help us keep crime going down. One of the ways is to make sure your home is as secure as you can make it before you leave for the day. It is great if you have an alarm system and cameras around your home.  But, I am speaking about something a little more practical. such as making sure your doors and all of your windows are locked. Taking a minute to check your windows can make the difference between you being the victim of a burglary and that burglar moving on to another location. If you are unsure if your windows are secure enough or if you just want ways to better secure your residence please contact the 104th Precinct Crime Prevention Officer for a free in home Security Survey (718) 386-6223 ask for PO Hyatt 7am-3pm or PO Collado 3pm-11pm.

Between Sunday, August 23, 2015 and Wednesday, August 26, 2015 there were nine (9) burglaries that occurred throughout the 104th Precinct. Seven (7) of the nine burglaries involved the perpetrator(s) gaining entry through a window. Some of the victims stated left the windows open and some could not remember if the locked the windows or not. Please take the time to check your windows before you leave your home. I am not saying this is going to stop a determined criminal, but I am saying it will make it more difficult for the criminal.

Here are some locations where the burglaries occurred:

Glendale: *(2) 8/26/15 - between the hours of 8:00 am - 7:30 pm  64-XX 74 Avenue - ( window was left open)  *both burglaries occurred at the same location

Maspeth: (1) 8/25/15 - between the hours of 7:00 am - 10:15 pm 60-XX 56 Road - (rear door was left unlocked) Dry Cleaners

Ridgewood: (6) 8/25/15 - between the hours of  12:30 pm - 8:30 pm  18-XX Cornelia Street - (entered through window)

*8/24/15 - 8/25/15 - between the hours of 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm  9xx Onderdonk Avenue  *Two (2) occurred at this location

8/25/15 - between the hours of 6:30 am - 7:00 pm 18-XX Cornelia Street - (entered through window)

8/25/15 - between the hours of 11:30 am - 1:45 pm 18-XX Centre Street - (entered through window)

Roe,

We have a report of an auto break in at the 70-00 block of 57th Road, occurred between 4 pm on monday 8/17‎ and 6:30 AM the following morning. Unknown perp(s) broke into a sedan parked at the location and removed a Garmin GPS, a sleeve for a car battery and a Sirius Satellite radio receiver.

Please tell the gang not to leave valuables inside their cars. The thieves know all the hiding spots, and the most common items stolen are from the center console and trunk and include electronics, Credit/Debit Cards and‎ sporting goods.  Also don't leave the GPS suction cups on the inside glass because the thieves will break in looking for a GPS.

Be safe!

-Capt Mac

FYI: Tow operation on Flushing Avenue

8/27/2015

Picture
Hi All,

West Maspeth residents will have an easier time parking tonight. Kudos to Captain Mackie, Executive Officer, 104th Precinct and his officers for towing a total of 17 vehicles off the street on Flushing Avenue in the vicinity of American Collision during Operation Clean Sweep today.

Finding a parking spot has become extremely difficult throughout Cometland. We are pleased the 104th has been listening to quality of life complaints from folks throughout the command about vehicles being stored on the street, vehicles with no plates, car wrecks, etc. and taking action.

You can see more photos on 104th Precinct Twitter.

Great job, 104th!!!
