Q47 Calamus Avenue Detour UPDATE: 69th Street stops

7/28/2017

Subject: Q47 Calamus Avenue Detour UPDATE : 69th Street stops

Good afternoon,

This is to notify you of upcoming service changes to the Q47 related to the ongoing Calamus Avenue sewer project (SE-814) being undertaken by the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC).

We have been notified by the DDC resident engineer that beginning next week, their contractors will be undertaking work on 69th Street between 48th and 51st Avenues. While this work will not require us to detour the Q47 travel path away from 69th Street, this work will directly impact two Q47 bus stops.

Effective August 1, 2017 and lasting through the end of September, 2017 (approximately 8 weeks):

  1.       The northbound Q47 stop at 69 St/49 Av will be temporarily discontinued. Customers will be directed to use the bus stop on 69 St/48 Av for the nearest available northbound Q47 service.

  1.       The southbound Q47 stop at 69 St/48 Av will be temporarily discontinued. Customers will be directed to use the bus stop on 69 St/50 Av for the nearest available southbound Q47 service.

We will post notifications on the affected bus stops to inform customers at street level about the changes and will restore the bus stops once the DDC construction is cleared by the end of September.

This is in addition to the existing temporary Q47 detour, which has rerouted Q47 buses off Calamus Avenue and other Grand Avenue instead.

At the conclusion of DDC work, MTA Bus Company plans to restore all affected bus stops and original routing on the Q47.

Please let me know if you have any questions,
-Luke

Calamus Avenue Concerns - free legal advice, filing a claim, parking tickets

7/28/2017

FYI from Assemblyman Brian Barnwell:

Following a meeting with the City Comptroller and  Department of Design and Construction (DDC); we have the following information for those that have been affected by the Calamus Ave project. (please see the attached document for full details)

Any claim that is filed by the public (whether it be regarding an accident, property damage, etc) comes to the attention of the Resident Engineer, Community Construction Liaison, or other project staff, the Property Damage/Claim must be completed by the Complainant and submitted to the Resident Engineer.

The contractor must be informed of all potential claims and all the elements of said complaints. The Complainant must contact the contractor directly regarding their claim.  If the Contractor has not satisfied the complaint in 10 days, then they should contact the Borough Engineer and provide the details of their case.

Upon receipt of a letter detailing the claim from the Claimant, the Borough Director’s letter of response along with the appropriate NYC Comptroller’s Claim Form/Instructions and the Contractor’s insurance information will be forwarded to the Claimant.  Forward a copy of the Borough Director’s response to DDC’s Insurance Risk Management Unit.

If the claim involves water service or sewer house connection damages, the Engineer-In-Charge must be informed promptly.

The affected homeowners should file with the Contractor’s insurance, the homeowner’s own insurance and the Comptroller’s
Office to have all the bases covered. For those interested in attending our free legal services event, we’ve attached the flyer.

Additionally, CAC Industries will write letters for those who currently have received parking violations in order to have their tickets waived.  There will be three day notices posted for any future change of parking rules, in order to avoid further violations. To request a waiver for a parking violation, contact CAC Industries at (718) 729-3600.

To file a claim with the City Comptroller’s office, a downloadable form is available on their website
https://comptroller.nyc.gov/services/for-the-public/claims/file-a-claim/

For any further questions or any issues we encourage all individual homeowners/residents to contact our office directly, feel free to call our office at (718) 651-3185.

Best Regards,

The Office of Assemblymember Brian Barnwell

Be on the lookout!

7/26/2017

Hi All,

The incident below occurred today, 7/26 in Maspeth.

This location is just a couple of blocks from Winfield/Woodside and a short distance from Elmhurst.

Please don't leave anything in your car and make sure the doors are locked!

If you get up during the night, please take a minute to look out your window. If you spot suspicious activity, call 911.

70th Street between 52nd Drive/53rd Avenue

At about 2:30 am a resident looked out his window and spotted a black Honda or Toyota sedan on 70th Street. Two males with flashlights were looking in the trunk of a neighbor's car and a third male was on foot ahead of them.

He said they were white or white Hispanic - couldn't tell age.

There were no scratches on the victim's trunk so the witness thinks they might have had a key. We don't know if a report was taken because the victim would have nothing to report if nothing was stolen from the trunk and there was no damage to the vehicle.

The perpetrators parked their car across a driveway, probably because a double-parked car would raise suspicion.

Attempted rape in 110th Pct

7/24/2017

Good afternoon, I just wanted to inform you about an attempted rape that occurred in the confines of the 110th Precinct this morning details are as follows:
On Saturday 7/22/17, at approximately 4:42 am patrol officers received a call from a sexual assault in the vicinity of 74th Street and 43 Ave. Upon arrival officers were met by a 28 year old female Hispanic who stated that she was walking home from the 74th Street and Broadway train station and when she arrived at her home she noticed a male standing behind her. The male then threw her to the ground and placed his hands over her mouth, while attempting to pull up her skirt. The victim was able to scream for help and the perpetrator ran off in an unknown direction. The case is currently being investigated by Special Victims Squad, if anyone has any info about the incident please contact the 110th Detective squad at 718-476-9318. I will keep you updated on the case as I receive more information. Thank you. - Det. Jeanine Rivera, 110th Pct.

Bus stop move

7/10/2017

Hi All,

One of our members called to tell me that the Q60 bus stop that was on Queens Boulevard at 56th Avenue has been moved to Queens Boulevard and 55th Avenue (which is used by the Q59) with no notice to riders. She called the MTA but they told her they didn't know anything about it.

In case you use this bus stop and don't see the sign or pole, walk over to 55th Avenue. We don't want anyone to miss a bus.
