Hi,

Please find attached to this email the What’s Happening Here flyer for Woodhaven and Cross Bay Boulevard in PDF format. Please circulate the flyer widely. NYC DOT will implement bus and road safety improvements on Woodhaven Boulevard, starting at 85 Road and 89 Avenue. Work will include:

• Widen concrete medians to shorten pedestrian crossing distances
• Install pedestrian refuge islands
• Upgrade traffic signals and street lighting
• Refurbish lane markings

Alternate side parking suspended in Calamus area

Hi All,

For residents living in the vicinity of Calamus Avenue it comes as good news that Council Member Crowley spoke to the Department of Sanitation and stressed the necessity of suspending the alternate side parking regulations along 51st Avenue during the course of the sewer reconstruction. These regulations will be suspended beginning today, March 29th until October 1st. See the attached letter.

The good news is that this suspension will open up much needed parking for the residents. However, I just want to remind folks that this might be an opportunity for businesses in the area to take advantage of the situation. I have reached out to the 108th Precinct and asked them to monitor this strip and and summons illegally parked school buses, tractor trailers or vehicles parked with no license plates that might take up parking spaces.

If you observe a problem with illegal parking along 51st Avenue, Captain Forgione wants you to contact me and I'll reach out to his summons officer.

Community alert - lock your car doors!

Hi All,

One of our members let me know she was driving on 70th Street between Calamus and 54th Avenues at about 10:00 pm tonight, Friday. She observed four Hispanic teenagers on both sides of the street checking for unlocked cars.

She stated she called the police and was able to provide a description of one of the men/boys. He was wearing red shorts with black tights underneath. It is unknown if the 104th Precinct arrived in time to spot them.

Please make sure your vehicles are locked and don't leave anything in it - even small change. If you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately.
