Be on the Lookout!!

8/21/2020

UPDATE: We just heard from NCO Martinez, 110th Precinct, and he said the Grand Stand Bar in Elmhurst was broken into last night as well. It might be a pattern so everyone needs to keep their eyes open!

Several Maspeth businesses were burglarized
last night. Pizza place on Grand/69th Street, bakery on Grand/71st Street, salon on 57th/71st and a salon on 60th/Fresh Pond Road.

The burglaries occurred during early morning hours. The perpetrator entered the business by breaking a window.

We believe the perpetrator may be a male with long hair tied in a bun, riding a bike and carrying a Nike backpack.

If there's any update we'll let you know.

Please keep a lookout and if you think you may have any information about who the perpetrator may be you can contact the 104th Precinct Squad at (718) 386-2723.

The Health Department is conducting aerial larviciding treatment to parts of central Queens to reduce mosquito activity and reduce the risk of West Nile virus on Tuesday, August 18 from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
In case of bad weather, the application will be delayed for Wednesday, August 19.
The department will use very low concentrations of DeltaGard or Anvil. The risks of the pesticides for mosquito control are low to people and pets.
Some people who are sensitive to spray ingredients may experience short-term eye or throat irritation or a rash.
To stay safe during spraying, residents are advised to stay indoors whenever possible. Air conditioners can remain on.

Re: Be on the Lookout! Car Break-ins - UPDATE

8/9/2020

UPDATE - This is what we've been hearing:
  • Sunday, August 2nd, male white with no shirt in his 20's breaking into a vehicle on 84th Street in Elmhurst. Later that morning, a male white with no shirt was breaking into a vehicle in west Maspeth. We suspect two women in a car may be working with him. How many males with no shirt are running around the neighborhood in broad daylight breaking into cars?? Too much of a coincidence. These incidents occurred between approximately 9-11:30 am.
  • We were just advised by a Maspeth resident that she witnessed a black male, skinny build, trying car doors at 5:30 am on 66th Street during the week. He was seen going into a neighbor's driveway to try the car door. Another neighbor had a video that she shared with the 104th Precinct but we were told that you can't see his face. 911 wasn't called about the activity because the witness said he was walking so fast it would be hard to catch up to him.
How you can help: If you live on 66th Street and have a video, please check it. The thief probably went to other nearby blocks so you might want to check your video too. If you find something, contact the 104th Precinct.

Hi All,

A neighbor reached out to me this morning and said that his car was broken into. Here's some info:
  • The incident occurred on 70th Street between 52nd Drive and 53rd Avenue.
  • The car was parked in the driveway. The gate was not closed.
  • Neither the door nor locks were damaged but the owner was "confident" the doors were locked.
  • The seats were moved, everything was gone through but nothing was stolen.
  • One of the responding officers told me this is going on all over. As a matter of fact, we had a similar incident this past week in Elmhurst in broad daylight.
Please don't rely on the automatic door locks and make sure you leave nothing valuable in your vehicle. If you have a gate, close it because the thief won't want to make a noise opening it.

Regardless of whether or not something was stolen we urge you to file a report so that the precinct can see where these incidents are occurring. Not filing a report is like saying nothing happened.

Be safe and keep your eyes open!!
