Community alert: Maspeth burglary

1/29/2015

Hi All,

Det. Thomas Bell, 104th Precinct Community Affairs, wants to let us know that a residential burglary occurred yesterday afternoon, 1/28, at 55-XX 65th Place in Maspeth during the daytime hours while the senior citizen homeowner was upstairs sleeping.

The perpetrator entered through the rear door and stole property from downstairs. The homeowner thinks he may have left the door unlocked. Luckily the perpetrator didn't go upstairs!

Please keep all doors and windows locked at all times! If you see any suspicious activity, call 911.

The Department of Sanitation will resume limited refuse, recycling, and organics collection throughout the city starting tonight at 7 p.m.

Residents whose refuse, recycling, and organics wasn’t collected earlier because of the snowstorm should place their material out at the curbside after 4 p.m. this evening.  Residents are asked to place their material out in a cleared area, if possible, to help Sanitation Workers gain access to the cans and bags.

Burglary on Manila Street

1/13/2015

Hi All,

We were told folks saw police activity in the vicinity of Manila Street/Kneeland Avenue yesterday, Monday, 1/12, at about 8:30 am. See PO Saponieri's, 110th Precinct Community Affairs, response below. Please pass his message on to others in the area!

This perpetrator could be one of the two men arrested by the 104th Precinct yesterday trying to break into a home on Jay Avenue in Maspeth around noontime. One of the men was charged with the recent burglary on Codwise Place in Elmhurst.

On the other hand, this burglary may not be related so it's important you all stay alert!!

There was a burglary in the 51 numbers on Manilla street.  C/V stated she woken up to a loud bang from the front door, both apartment and front door to the building were forced open.  No property was missing.  The doors were locked and the perp fled in an unknown direction.  Please remind everyone of the importance of keeping doors and windows locked.

Jay Ave burglar was also Codwise Place burglar

Hi All,

Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, called again to update us on an earlier "Alert" we sent out about the apprehension of two Brooklyn burglars attempting to break into a home on Jay Avenue.

Remember the email from DI Leyson, 110th Precinct, advising us about a burglary on Codwise Place and attaching a photo of the perpetrator? The good news is that one of the burglars apprehended by the 104th Precinct matched the description of the Codwise burglar.

The 104th Precinct contacted the 110th Precinct. The 110th officers responded immediately and drove to the 104th and positively identified the suspect as the one in their photo. (If you want to see his photo, go to our website www.cometcivic.com and click "newsletter" at the top of the page)

One of the Maspeth burglars is now being charged with the Elmhurst burglary too!

Isn't it great our precincts work together? Awesome!!

Please don't let your guard down just because these individuals were arrested! If you see something, say something. If you are a victim of a crime, PLEASE report it!!

Home invasion perps caught in Maspeth

1/12/2015

Hi All,

Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, just called to let us know they made a great burglary arrest!

At about 12:15 pm today, 1/12, 66 #s on Jay Avenue, an Asian victim called 911 to report males attempting to kick her door off the hinges.

The 104th Precinct conducted a canvas and stopped two males. The victim was unable to identify them. Not to be thwarted, the 104th looked for cameras in the area and were able to positively determine that these were the perpetrators. They were taken to the 104th Precinct for processing.

You'll be surprised to hear that the perpetrators from Brooklyn are two male blacks aged 51 and 53-years old! One had a prior arrest for attempted murder and the other had a long record of burglaries and robberies. They were driving a white SUV.

As a result of the victim calling 911 immediately, these criminals are now off the street. The detectives will most likely look to see if they are connected to any other crimes in our area.

The second "good news" is that Captain Manson said that the 104th Precinct is #1 in the city with a 51% decrease in crime for the first 11 days in 2015.

Please don't assume that just because these crooks were arrested you don't have to be vigilant. There's always another criminal looking to take their place. Also, don't assume all burglars are young - as we just saw in this case.

We thank the officers in the 104th for a job well done!!

Hi All,

PO Saponieri, 110th Precinct Community Affairs, just called to let us know that we had a robbery in Elmhurst.

At approximately 4:00 pm this afternoon, two male juveniles aged 14 and 15-years old with a gun entered a business at 85 #s on Grand Avenue. They pistol-whipped the husband and wife and threatened to stab them. They stole $468 and cell phones and fled. The victims called 911 and provided the description of the robbers and the direction of flight.

Community alert: Deception burglary!

1/6/2015

Hi All,

Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, just called to alert us about a deception burglary that occurred today at approximately 4:00 pm in the vicinity of 53rd/65th Place in Maspeth.

Two male whites posing as DEP workers rang the bell of an 83-year old senior and told her they needed to check the water. While one perpetrator distracted her, the other stole $1500.

Captain Manson said that DEP work is going on in the area and they used this as a "cover". He said that these two men were seen ringing doorbells prior to going to the senior's house but no one was home. The victim was taken to the location where DEP was working but none of the men were identified as the perpetrators.

I know you've all heard this before, but PLEASE alert your neighbors - especially seniors - about this scam. No utility company will come to your home to "check" anything without calling you first. If the person(s) seems insistent to get into your home, call the utility company to verify the person is legitimate or call 911.
