Hi All,
Hi All,
FYI from 110th Precinct. Address of club is 79-21 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst, on Woodside border. Roe _________________________________________ Roe, Just an update. We closed down Exotics again on Friday. There was a hearing today in Supreme Court. The judge was not satisfied with their performance under the stipulations put forth at prior hearings. Their liquor license was suspended through May when they will be reviewed by the State Liquor Authority. I will keep you posted. DI L. Deputy Inspector Ronald D. Leyson Commanding Officer 110th Precinct 94-41 43 Ave Elmhurst, NY 11373 718-476-9337 Hi All,
Joe Papavero was nice enough to pass this on. These characters are even targeting businesses! If you didn't call someone to do the work, don't let them in! If someone says your roof, etc. needs repair, call a reliable business you've dealt with in the past or ask a neighbor. Please pass this on - especially to seniors!! Roe Daraio, President Comet Civic Association www.cometcivic.com ________________________________________________________________ Just thought I might share something with you to pass along to people in the community so that they can be aware of it. Twice, we have been attempted to be scammed by two different supposed roofing companies. Once, a few months back, a man approached my grandmother outside of her house and said he had been working on the roof of an adjacent building and had noticed her roof needed some repairs. She was almost going to let him go up onto her house, when one of us had caught the guy and questioned him. We then questioned the neighbor whose roof they claimed to have been working on and he had never heard of them, nor had they done any work on his roof. Yesterday, a man rang our funeral home doorbell early in the morning when none of us were here yet. He told our secretary that he had been asked by Joseph Papavero to check our roof because he had (similarly to the first instance) noticed a roof problem on our roof while working on a nearby roof of another neighbor. She explained to him through the door that none of the owners were currently in. They further told her that they had done work on our roof in the past. They had never done any work for us and we never even heard of the company. Just notify people of this potential scam, especially elderly people in the community, as they are trying to pretend to do a quick patch job and collect money and run. Thank you Hi All,
Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, just advised me we had two more crimes in Maspeth:
Joann Berger, Comet's School Liaison, and I are trying to get the MTA to give us a couple of extra Q58 buses at IS73 to help deter youth from hanging out after school. To date, MTA hasn't responded. We'll follow up. Roe Daraio, President COMET Civic Association www.cometcivic.com Hi All,
Received several calls from folks this afternoon at about 4:00 pm. They stated that numerous police vehicles/vans and helicopters were in the vicinity of Stop & Shop, Grand Avenue/74th Street and the roadway was closed. People exiting S&S were directed to 57th Avenue. Traffic was backed up. Received a call from DI Cody, former Commanding Officer of 104th, who is now at 115th Precinct. Said he was one of the officers who responded to the call. Here's the story - relaying it the best I can: Apparently an emotionally disturbed man was spotted walking railroad tracks in vicinity of Moffit Street in Brooklyn, 83rd Precinct. He began throwing rocks at police officers. He was later spotted at the Fresh Pond rail yard tracks and eventually materialized on the CSX tracks in the vicinity of Stop & Shop and some adjacent yards waving a machete. He somehow got on the roof of an auto business at 74-17 Grand Avenue. When he saw Emergency Service Officers, he dropped the machete, then picked up a hammer and at some point picked up a large chain (like one used to tow cars) and hit an Emergency Service Officer in the hand while he was attempting to taser him. The officer suffered minor injuries and the emotionally disturbed man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital. We want to thank DI Cody, 115th Precinct; DI Leyson, 110th Precinct; Captain Wachter, 114th Precinct; Lt. Lombardi, 104th Precinct and all the other officers who came to assist. Great job!! Roe Daraio, President COMET Civic Association www.cometcivic.com Hi All,
Just heard from Captain Manson, 104th Precinct. He wants to let us know that we had another burglary - 52 #s on 72nd Place in northern Maspeth this past Wednesday. The perpetrator(s) accessed and opened a bedroom window by using the homeowner's ladder. A $1,000 camera was stolen. It appears that the perpetrator just reached in and took it - seems nothing else was stolen. The burglary occurred between the hours of 7:30 am and 7:30 pm. This is not far from the Woodside/Elmhurst border! Captain Manson also said, in response to a concerned anonymous tipster, they tracked down a green jeep that was seen driving around northern Maspeth. Summonses were issued for unregistered with no inspection, etc.
Comet Civic Association www.cometcivic.com Just heard from Captain Manson, 104th Precinct. Over the past couple of days, the 104th arrested a graffiti vandal in the Maspeth area. They also arrested two males. One was arrested for heroin and the other for a Warrant.
DI Leyson, 110th Precinct, told us they arrested a group yesterday in Elmhurst for stealing a cell phone. Our precincts are doing a great job! There's a lot to discuss at our meeting on Monday. I'm sure we'll get more detailed information. Don't forget to keep a lookout for our burglars and keep your cell phones out of sight!! COMET Meeting Monday, March 4th, 7:00 pm 85-20 57th Avenue Parking available |
