Someone sent us something from social media posted by a resident who said that cars were allegedly being broken into along Grand Avenue in Maspeth between Stop & Shop and the motel. If no police reports were filed, our officers are unaware that anything ever happened. Let's hope the vandalism was reported.
We heard from someone in Elmhurst who said a neighbor spotted about five cars deeply "keyed" on Jacobus Street near 51st Avenue. I asked our 110th Precinct NCO Martinez to check and he said no one filed a report. No report means "nothing happened".
Our officers patrol areas where crime is being reported. It may seem fruitless to report vandalism to your car or to report something was stolen from it, but we may see more police presence in our communities if they believe crimes are occurring. Call 911 and tell the Operator you need someone to take a report for a past time. The police will not come immediately because it's not an emergency, but it's now documented crimes are occurring in our area.
Our December COMET meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 6th and we'll send out the Zoom info towards the end of the week so you don't forget.
Please stay alert and if you get up during the night look out your window. If you see a suspicious person call 911 and give the Operator a description of the person and what he/she is doing. It's important we send a clear message that our neighborhood is watching!!
