- Before you go to bed at night, take a moment to look out your window. If you need to use the restroom during the night, look out the window - some of the best observations are made during early morning hours.
- Call 911 if you see anything suspicious. Be prepared to give a description of the suspect(s), vehicle if one is involved and the direction they were headed. You will not get into trouble if you call 911 and are mistaken - you are looking out for the safety and well-being of your community.
- If you are a victim, please file a report! The NYPD keeps a record of where crimes are occurring and sends officers to the affected area to catch the perpetrators. If reports aren't being filed, the NYPD can only assume there is no crime in our area.
At approximately 1:00 am this morning a Comet member saw two, what appeared to be youths trying car doors and looking into cars with flashlights on Ireland Street (This is near IS 5 on 51st Avenue). He called 911 - the 110th Precinct responded in 9 minutes. The 110th cruised the adjoining blocks. The results of the NYPD canvass is unknown to the complainant. One perpetrator was short and wearing a white hoodie and the other was tall wearing a gray sweat. Once again, this is on the 110th/108th/104th border. These thieves know no borders and could easily make their way a couple of blocks down 51st Avenue into Woodside. Calamus Avenue, the border of all 3 precincts, is one block off 51st Avenue and gives the perpetrators easy access to Maspeth.
