Last night I was told that a group of protesters on bicycles marched up Grand Avenue in Maspeth and briefly stopped by PS 58. Folks were surprised that no prior notification was given letting them know the event was taking place.
I spoke to DI Perry, Commanding Officer of the 104th Precinct, and she stated these pop-up protests were occurring throughout the city without prior notice given to the NYPD.
Keep in mind that we all have a First Amendment right of freedom of speech and that is one of the great things we have in this country. However, if you will be protesting, please wear a mask and exercise social distancing the best that you can.
If a protest pops up unannounced, you can call 911 to advise the precinct where it is. The Operator may or may not switch you to 311 and you can remain anonymous. It's important that our precincts know what's going on.
Most importantly, stay healthy and safe!
