At 4:30 pm yesterday, November 5th, I went to put out my trash & recycling for the weekly pickup. When I was about to drop the items into the can for glass & plastic, I noticed an unopened package from Amazon addressed to me. I went onto Amazon's website, which stated the package was delivered by USPS at 12:35 pm yesterday. It was a small box, containing 2 DVDs & a bag of dog treats.
I definitely did not have a senior moment - I had never seen the box till I found it in the can.
My first thought was that maybe the person dropped the box into the can so they could pick it up from the can after I'd put it out for recycling, but that didn't make sense - why would they look for cover of darkness if they were brazen enough to do this while it was still daylight?
My final thought is that it must have been a random act of mischief - the person would have had to open my gate, climb my front steps, then go to the side gate & walk about 15 feet to drop the box into the can. But, if they do it once, they'll probably do it again somewhere else.
I have a note on my door asking that packages be left below my mailbox. UPS rings the bell - I'll revise the note to ask USPS to do so as well.
So, before you put out your trash, just take a look inside the can!
