Council Member Crowley's office just gave us some good news. A survey of Maurice Avenue between the LIE and 65th Place (DOT-328373-K6Y0) revealed the need for additional lighting on the existing wood poles. The installation will take place during the third quarter of 2017. The additional lighting will make this strip safer for pedestrians and motorists.
In late October 2016, COMET Treasurer Geraldine Walsh was driving on Maurice Avenue shortly after the old bulbs were replaced with LED lighting. She said it was extremely dark along the strip. We asked our VP Mike Fordunski to take photos which were subsequently sent to DOT and the Council Member. See the attached photos.
As you can see, these surveys take time. The initial request was submitted in October of 2016 and the improvement will be made about a year later.
If anyone has ideas that will beautify our community or make it safer, please let us know.
