Below is a message from DOT Queens Deputy Commissioner Jason Banrey regarding the one-way street proposal for northern Maspeth.
Please note that the accident data provided to us by NYPD below for approximately three years is much higher than DOT's statistics for five years.
We are hopeful this information will be helpful when Community Board 5's Transportation Committee holds their Public Hearing.

Good afternoon,
DOT has conducted an evaluation of street directional changes in Maspeth, Queens. The proposed changes are to address safety concerns due to narrow widths of the streets in the area. The proposal would create an alternating street grid network and help in reducing vehicle/pedestrian, vehicle/vehicle conflicts as well as reduce congestion and grid lock intersections. NYPD Accident Data
In regards to your inquiry I did some research and found 19 accidents in the vicinity of Calamus Ave (6 in the 104 PCT and 13 in the 108 PCT).
For the grid of 71 St to 74 St, Grand Ave to 51 Ave I found 119 accidents. (80 in the 104 PCT and 39 in the 108 PCT)
I went from 2015 to present because a majority of the accident reports on DAS Lite prior to then have incomplete information or do not appear in the system at all. Any accident from approximately March 15, 2016 onward is available digitally on the FORMS database.
