One of our members reports that at approximately 5:00 am yesterday, 4/30, a woman spotted two people vandalizing the wall of a building in Elmhurst near the Maspeth border. She called 911, the 110th Precinct responded immediately and made the arrests. He told us that the owner of the building is pressing charges.
DI Manson, Commanding Officer of the 110th Precinct, said he will have his graffiti officer stay on top of this.
Great job by the witness who called 911! We're pleased to hear the building owner will press charges. Thank you to our Comet member for giving us this good news!!

FYI from Captain Mackie, Executive Officer at 104th Precinct:
They will also be able to close out other complaints with the same tag to "arrest". Great job by the 110 and once again, thanks to an alert complainant who called it in right away.
Commissioner Bratton was talking about the importance of broken windows at the conference yesterday; part of the fight against broken windows is an alert and involved community that reports these incidents quickly, by informing the police where these incidents are occurring, which better helps us to apprehend those responsible. It is also a prime example of the police partnering with the community, working together to fight crime and other offenses which erode quality of life in the neighborhood.
When these incidents are rapidly called in to 911, the chances of us making an apprehension increase dramatically. We can arrive within 2-5 minutes of the in-progress offense, and the chances of the bad guys either still being at the location or just leaving are very high.
Great stuff!

Hi All,
See PO Saponieri's response to a couple of questions I asked about recent graffiti arrests. One would think "men" in their 20's would have something better to do than scribble on buildings!
If you live in Elmhurst and need graffiti removed, please get back to me ASAP.
Roe
