I just heard from Captain Mastronardi, 104th Precinct, who wants folks to know we had another burglary this afternoon via a fire escape. He mentioned at our meeting this past Monday that folks who have fire escapes should put wood in the window so it can't be pushed up and breaking the lock. Folks who have balconies should consider doing the same thing in the event someone manages to get up to the second floor.
I was discussing crime incidents in our area with PO Diaz, 108th Precinct. The only burglary was that of a truck. However, we have quite a few "car crimes". Three stolen cars - a BMW stolen from QB/67th Street; a Bentley stolen from 50th Avenue/70th Street; and an Acura stolen from 50th Avenue/73rd Place. Three Grand Larcenies from vehicles - unlocked Toyota side door; a laptop stolen from the trunk of a vehicle on 61st/Laurel Hill Boulevard; and a Ford Explorer was broken into on Garfield/70th Street.
Please don't leave anything in your vehicle and please secure your windows especially if you have a fire escape.
