The 104 Precinct received a complaint from a victim who stated she received a call from an individual who claimed they worked for Publishers Clearing House and that complainant had won 2.7 million dollars in cash.
The perpetrator (who was a female) then called multiple times a day asking for monies to be sent to different locations via a Money Pak card. The victim sent the money to this perpetrator and never received any monies in return.
The Holidays are fast approaching and the criminals are thinking of new ways to have you part with your money via phone scams. Just a couple of tips to assist if you receive an unsolicited call:
- Get the callers name, hang up and call back the company with a customer service number you obtain (never use the number that they provide).
- IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE.... IT PROBABLY IS!
