I just got off the phone with Captain Mastronardi, 104th Precinct. He told
me over the past several months there have been multiple burglaries that
appear to fall within the same "crime pattern". The burglaries are
occurring mostly in northern and central Maspeth, Woodside in the vicinity
of Calamus Avenue and Middle Village adjacent to Maspeth. Those of you who
live outside this area still need to be careful!
Here is some information:
- The burglaries are occurring during the hours people are not home -
8:00 am to about 6:30 pm. This does not mean a burglary cannot happen
outside this time frame!
- Many, but not all, victims are Asian.
- Entry is oftentimes made through the rear. The burglar made entry into
one home through the balcony and another was made via a fire escape.
Make sure you secure your house before you go out.
Be aware of your surroundings!! Is someone watching you leave each day at
the same time?
Don't leave large amounts of cash in your house.
If you see one or more suspicious persons walking around or sitting in a
car and looking at houses, etc. call 911 and tell the Operator we have a
burglary pattern in our area and the 104th Precinct asked folks to call.
If you see a suspicious vehicle, make a note of the make/model/license
plate number.
*Please be alert and pass this information along to your neighbors!!*
We will most likely hear more about this at our meeting on Monday.
