Good evening,
Earlier this afternoon the 104th Precinct received word of a disturbing image circulating on social media. This image consisted of a sign that was placed in the vicinity of 63rd Street and Elliot Avenue, Middle Village. The sign obtained offensive language directed towards the Asian American community and was written on a flat piece of wood, nailed to a tree.
The New York City Police Department takes these incidents very seriously. At this time, this incident has been deemed a possible bias incident and has been referred to the Hate Crimes Task Force for further investigation. Going forward, the 104th Precinct will pay special attention to the vicinity of the incident. Please understand that at this time, this investigation is current and ongoing. If you have any questions or concerns, as always please feel free to write or call the 104th Precinct Community Affairs Office.
Thank you,
Police Officer Michael Berish
