Community Alert - Burglaries

7/12/2012

Hi Everyone,

This has not been confirmed by the 110th Precinct, but Block Captain on 80th Street between Grand/57th Avenues states there was a burglary yesterday at approximately 1-1:30 pm.  Supposedly the perpetrator kicked in the rear basement door.  Witness observed male black on property.  No further description and not known what was stolen, if anything.  Block Captain believes this was reported.

Block Captain further states that an attempted burglary supposedly occurred on the same block earlier this week.  Allegedly perpetrator broke glass window but couldn't reach doorknob.  Again, this hasn't been confirmed.  It is not known if this was reported.

  • Please keep an sharp eye out and report anything suspicious.  A burglary can occur anywhere and the crook(s) don't usually do their crime in the same area - they move around to avoid detection.
  • If you would like the NYPD to do a safety survey of your house, call your precinct and ask to speak to your Crime Prevention Officer.
  • Please pass on to others in the area.  The more eyes, the better!!

Here is DI Leyson's response AND another burglary.  If anyone has any info, please contact 110th Precinct - or me if your hesitant - and I will have someone reach out to you.  The victim of the attempted burglary can still make a report.  Those of you on 80th Street who know this person should encourage them to do so.  Police coverage is put in the areas that need it.  If we don't report crime - then we won't get the coverage because the police will think nothing is going on here!!
_______________

The Burglary on 80 St is confirmed. Rear basement door kicked in. Computer and electronics stolen. The time frame was from early in morning and reported when she got home at 4PM.
No witness information on the complaint and no description of a black male. If they have information we need it to investigate.
Also, there was another Burglary 55 Rd and 84 St on Friday the 6th and reported in the 10th. Money and jewelry taken from a dresser. This was a rear screen door entry. No perp description.

The broken window one on 80 St is NOT confirmed.
