Kudos to the 110th! They caught our bike thief - again. Unfortunately, we had a burglary in Elmhurst near Maspeth/Woodside border. Wonder if he's the same guy doing burglaries in northern Maspeth area on border of Elmhurst/Woodside. See DI Leyson's info.
76 and Kneeland St. Rear window entrance, air conditioner pushed in. Jewelry taken. This happened Friday between 1:30 and 9:30 PM. Please have people watch out for suspicious people in the neighborhood....
With the description given by one of COMET's members, along with video captured of other crimes, the 110th Pct Anti-Crime Team began a surveillance operation of a known Bike thief last week. This happens to be the same thief that was captured on video by a COMET member last year who was arrested due to that video.
The team watched him for over eight hours over the past few days. Today he was observed stealing a Bike on the dead end of 52 Ave near Haspel St. A photo array was conducted from another "Cometland" Bike theft on 4/23 which resulted in a positive ID of our perp.
He was also arrested for several trespasses on Ireland and 51 Ave, Goldsmith and 51 Ave, going in and out of yards and common alleyways. In all he was arrested nine (9) times today. We will follow up on the prosecution with the ADA to ensure the highest bail possible and jail time (again) for this recidivist.
Great job by the members of the Anti-Crime Team as well as the members of COMET for keeping their eyes open and not keeping their mouths shut. We can be successful if we continue to work together.
Captain Forgione will be able to speak to the membership at your meeting next week about this and other concerns such as speeding on 57 Ave.
Deputy Inspector Ronald D. Leyson
