See info from Captain Wachter, 104th Precinct, below. I asked and he said all the cars items were stolen from were UNLOCKED.

On Sunday, June 12 at approximately 5:15 am, members of the 104th precinct arrested a 17 year old Maspeth resident for breaking into numerous cars in the vicinity of 71st and Grand Avenue. We were alerted to this incident by a concerned citizen who called 911 when he saw something suspicious. Please alert the community to lock their car doors.
