Captain Manson, 104th Precinct, advised us of a burglary and possible new scam. He is also looking into two incidents that someone from west Maspeth called to our attention. We will advise you when we hear back from him.
- The burglary occurred on 9/4, 53-xx 63rd Street, between hours of 6:00-9:00 pm when homeowners went to store. Back window found open, bedrooms ransacked and among things stolen were 12 watches worth $9,000. Even if you leave home for a few minutes, make sure all windows/doors are secured. You don't know who is watching!!
- Be forewarned: Middle Village resident received call from unknown person saying that they had to pay $499 for new rear meter installation. Homeowner called utility company and was told they did not call. Woodside/Winfield folks could be very vulnerable to this type of scam because of pre-sewer work being done by utility companies. This can happen to anyone, anywhere. BEWARE!
