Good morning,
Earlier today at approximately 3:53 am. police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Fresh Pond Road and Eliot Avenue. Details are as follows, a black Toyota Rav 4 occupied by one motorist and one rear passenger was traveling southbound on Fresh Pond Road at Eliot Avenue. As this vehicle was crossing the intersection it was struck by a white Ford Explorer travelling eastbound on Eliot Avenue crossing over Fresh Pond Road. The Ford Explorer appeared to be moving at a high rate of speed and disobeyed a steady red traffic light at the intersection. Both occupants of the Toyota Rav 4 were removed immediately to a local hospital, where the passenger was treated for a leg injury, while the motorist received severe head trauma and was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ford Explorer appeared to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest. This investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by our NYPD Collision Investigation Unit.
