On Friday May 15, 2015 at 3:00 pm, the Commanding and Executive Officers from the 104 Precinct and 108 Precinct conducted a joint operation in regards to numerous complaints from the community regarding "Drag Racing" in the vicinity of the 104/108 border. A Temporary Headquarters Vehicle was placed at a highly visible location in the area (56-60 55th Road-McDonald's), with flashing lights, along with two additional vehicles staffed by members of the 104 and 108 Precincts to send a clear message to all motorists in the vicinity that drag racing in the 104 and 108 Precincts will not be tolerated. This operation was supplemented by traffic officers from the 104 and 108 Precincts who conducted enforcement in the vicinity of this location for hazardous violations, and who were on the lookout for any drag racing activity in the area. The Temporary Headquarters Vehicle operation was concluded at 6:30 AM on Sunday, May 17th.
Captain Wachter, Captain Mackie and the Executive Staff at the 108 Precinct are aware of the propensity for drag racing (as well as noise from revving engines, which is a separate and distinct condition from drag racing and which requires different resources to address, and which will also be addressed in the coming weeks) in this area and are aware that this is a perennial condition. The 104 and 108 Precinct Traffic Teams will liaise with each other over the coming months to address this problem.
Members of the community are reminded to call 911 for emergencies and 311 for non-emergencies so that these incidents are appropriately documented and dispatched to members of the service on patrol.
Please note both Precincts are also aware of additional locations in and around both Precincts where these drag racers may frequent. Those locations will also be met with enforcement.
