With the impending storm this weekend we thought we should send this notification again. Please don't delete this until the end of winter.

If you see a smoking manhole, call 911 immediately!

We begin plowing every single street in NYC as soon as two inches of snow has fallen.

DEP Mandatory Downspout Disconnection

1/9/2026

https://www.nyc.gov/site/dep/whats-new/downspout-disconnection.page

DEP mandate:

“New York City property owners must ensure their downspouts (rain gutters) are not connected to the City’s sanitary sewer system. These connections are not allowed under New York City’s Rules because they can overwhelm the sewer with rainwater and cause sewer back-ups in basements and flooding in neighborhoods. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) plans to start enforcing this rule.

If your downspouts are currently connected to the City’s sanitary sewer system, you must disconnect them. You can disconnect them yourself, or you can hire a contractor.

Tips For Redirecting Rainwater:

  • Water should flow away from a building’s foundation.
  • Water should not be directed onto neighboring properties or the sidewalk.
  • Water can be captured in rain barrel for reuse, to water plants or wash cars.
  • Downspouts can be extended to direct water under a deck, patio, or to a grassed or garden area.
  • Rain gardens can be created and hard surfaces, like cement or patios, can be removed to allow water to infiltrate.”

Community Alert! - Mail

1/7/2026

It has come to our attention that numerous residents are receiving mail from different agencies addressed to a person not living there. In Maspeth, folks have been receiving mail from the NYS Dept of Health. Congresswoman Meng's office advised us that they are getting reports from people who are receiving mail from different agencies throughout her district.
  • If you receive such a letter, please do not throw it away. Write on the envelope "Return to sender no such person at this address". Give it to your mail carrier or drop it in a mailbox so the agency will know there's a problem.
  • It would be very helpful if you take a photo of the envelope and send it to the offices of Senator Gianaris and Assemblyman Raga so they can investigate what's going on.
  • Senator Gianaris: [email protected]
  • Assemblyman Raga:  [email protected] and [email protected],
