UPDATE:
PO Berish, 104th Community Affairs, told us that the 104th Detective Squad made another arrest from the incident involving assault of the off duty fireman that took place at Juniper Park. He is a 14-year old from Astoria. We will keep you posted if we get any other news. Message from COMET: Even if you're not a bike rider, you might want to review the map and send in any comments, suggestions or concerns you may have. If we get a lot of requests, we'll sent up a virtual meeting with DOT.
Message from the Outreach Coordinator/Bike Share I’m reaching from NYC DOT’s Bike Share unit to inform you that Citi Bike will be expanding further into Community Board 2 and 5, which includes neighborhoods such as Sunnyside, Woodside, Maspeth and Fresh Pond. As you may know, Citi Bike’s Phase 3 expansion is a five-year growth of New York City’s successful Citi Bike program that will double the size of the service area, covering all of Manhattan and significant portions of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, and increase the system’s fleet to 40,000 bikes. I wanted to highlight that we are opening our online feedback map as part of the planning process to collect suggestions from the public on where Citi Bike stations should be located in Queens CB 2 and 5: Citi Bike’s success is based on strong community feedback. Feel free to send this link via email, newsletter or social media pages! For easy sharing via social media, here are the posts NYC DOT made about the feedback map (Facebook and Twitter). Please continue to check back to our social media to keep updated on the next steps for bike share in Queens. 7:40 pm last night, 8/3, a call was placed to 911 from Juniper Park stating 10-15 kids on bikes with a "rock" were in the park. A second call was placed at 7:48 pm stating about 20 teens on bikes with a "cinderblock" and a group of girls were in the park. At 7:51 the caller agreed to meet with the police. The 104th Precinct responded, did a canvass and closed the job at 7:57 pm after negative results. Luckily no one was injured and the youths were gone.
We were alerted about an incident that occurred in Elmhurst on Broadway. An Asian female was walking to the supermarket, a male came up behind her, grabbed her by the shoulder and spun her around. She was able to escape and run away. The male chased her but fled when she started screaming. We were subsequently told that this has allegedly happened to several other women but only one woman made a police report. If something bad happens, go home, call 911 and the police will come and take the report. If you see something happening, try to get a photo so the police know who they're looking for. Important FYI - 110th NCO Martinez told us if someone grabs you but doesn't injure you, the report will be for Harassment. If you are hurt, it will be reported as an Assault. Barnwell Avenue/behind TD Bank - NCO Martinez called to let us know the homeless encampment and bikes have been removed from the area. Great job!! See attached. |
