Some legislation just passed regarding DSNY trash bins and some folks may be eligible to receive a reimbursement. Alicia from Council Member Holden's office will be on hand to answer questions.

The Zoom info is below. We have a lot on the agenda so please try to keep questions/responses as brief as possible.

NYPD Questions/Concerns
  • Crime statistics and any unusual events.
  • 110th - Was there a robbery on the south side of QB involving five perpetrators who allegedly robbed a person? This possibly happened on 2/20.
  • 104th/108th - Accidents continue to top the list in our area especially in the 104th. Any ideas?
  • 104th - Any luck removing the monstrosity on Starr Street?

  • Maspeth Federal's Earth Day event is scheduled for 4/12. Are there any programs folks can sign up for?
  • 110th - Asian Outreach - Will the outreach continue in Elmhurst Park now that the weather will be improving?

DSNY Recycling Update

2/11/2025

IMPORTANT

We were skeptical about being told recycling can be put out at 6:00 pm so we reached out to Queens West 4. Here's what we were told:
  • Trash must be put out in bins no earlier that 6:00 pm the evening before collection day.
  • Recycling can be put out at 6:00 pm ONLY IF IT IS IN A BIN. If the recycling is in a bag it cannot go out until 8:00 pm.
  • They are not writing summonses, but there are people assigned to canvas neighborhoods and write them. Queens West 4 doesn't want to see anyone getting a fine.
  • If your usual pickup is on Wednesday, don't forget it's Lincoln's Birthday tomorrow so don't put anything out until tomorrow night for pickup on Thursday.

No Trash, Curbside Composting or Recycling Collection on Lincoln’s Birthday,Wednesday, February 12, 2025

2/7/2025

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that in observance of Lincoln’s Birthday, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, there will be NO trash, curbside composting nor recycling collection on the holiday.

  • Residents who normally receive Wednesday trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection may place their material at the curb Wednesday evening, for collection beginning Thursday, February 13. Residents should understand collection delays may occur after holidays. We appreciate patience as we work to collect the backlog of material.

For questions about Sanitation services and holiday schedules contact 311 or visit nyc.gov/sanitation.

About the New York City Department of Sanitation
The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean, safe, and healthy by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets, attacking the scourge of illegal dumping, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms, 705 salt spreaders, and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Under the Adams Administration, the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the City than ever before, including over 1,000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years, DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane-miles of City streets.

85th Street Footbridge

2/6/2025

Senator Gianaris' office is aware of the community's concerns about activity taking place on and near the 85th Street footbridge between 55th and 57th Avenues and has reached out to the Department of Transportation to request cameras to monitor the strip. Suspicious people, illegal dumping and vandalism/graffiti are the issues of concern.
