- Residential Burglaries: During the period of 6/16/25-7/13/25 we took 11 reports of residential burglaries, of these 11, 9 of which occurred during the night hours, which is irregular for this crime. Most residential burglaries usually occur during the day, when people are not home. Out of the 11 residential burglaries, 6 perpetrators entered through a front/rear door, and 4 perpetrators gained entry through a window. In regard to your doors, it is very important to make sure all deadbolt and secondary locks are functioning properly. The strike plate of the door should not be loose and reinforced with 3-4in screws. The view finder (peep hole) on the front door should provide 180-degree view. Cameras at the front/rear of the residences should be in working order and should have enough DVR space to record whatever duration of time is necessary (ie. vacation). As for windows, security bars may be beneficial for first floor windows. For any window, you can get extra window locks at any home improvement store ranging from $8-$30 dollars and many of these locks come with a key locking mechanism. Also, if you would like a security survey done at any residence, commercial establishment, or House of Worship, let me know and I will be happy to come out and do it. You do not have to wait for a crime to occur to request a security survey if it is needed.
- Vehicle/Moped/Motorcycle and I will add Bicycle theft. During the period of 6/16/25-7/13/25 we took 20 reports of Grand Larceny Auto (11 mopeds, 5 cars, 4 motorcycles. Sometimes the old school methods are the best. When it comes to car theft, the steering wheel locks (club) are still extremely effective in deterring auto theft, and they also have wheel locks for mopeds/motorcycles. As for the bicycles, the chains work best. When storing any of these modes of transportation it is important to utilize any garage space, fenced in area, and utilize the above-mentioned devices. The NYPD occasionally does steering wheel lock give aways throughout the city during year.
- Apt/Room for rent scams on Facebook Market place. This involves a scammer putting a up a Facebook Market place post for an Apt/room to rent, which they have no authority to rent out such space and/or no apt/room actually exists. We took three reports for this particular scam. The important thing here is to never send a down payment/security deposit via Zelle, Venmo etc. to anyone without actually seeing the property first.
That's all I have for now. Be well, stay safe and cool in this hot weather.
Respectfully, Police Officer John Williams
