_ Friday morning 12/30/11 at approximately 0340, we received a call for Police Impersonation at the corner of Flushing Avenue and 64 Street. Apparently the defendant who was arrested Francis, Nick, J of 65-15 Grand Avenue Maspeth, NY was riding around in his personal vehicle and stopped a victim and claimed to be a Police Officer and removed the victim's jacket and fled in his vehicle which had flashing strobe lights. After a canvass of the area the defendant was arrested by Police Officer Sean McCarren with the assistance of his partner PO Jason Bianchini. The Officers also recovered a bulletproof vest and a holster for a firearm in the vehicle. Have a Happy & Safe New Year!!!! We are defending Cometland! Metal theft on the rise 11/29/2011
Hi Everyone, Our local thieves are becoming very creative. Here's what a west Maspeth Block Captain reports:
Response from a west Maspeth member: We have a lot of Junkies (scrap metal guys) in the area the past few months. They look through the garbage people put out. Tell all to watch what you keep in their yards... The problem is steel, aluminum and copper, are going up $$$$$. Response from Captain Cody: Also a quick FYI in regards-we rapidly responded to a Sewer Cap job yesterday-my new Lieutenant directed a canvass of scrap yards etc with Day Shift- also my Late Shift Anti-Crime team arrested a "scrapper" Monday morning at the new Walgreens on Metropolitan Avenue/West Maspeth-he had a criminal past and I have of course advised all of what you pass on to me. Comment from a resident: The same thief also took the Time Warner ground wires from 3 poles on 58th Ave from 83rd St. to 84th St., but was smart enough not to cut the thicker copper wires grounding the Con Ed pole transformers. Don't forget our Comet meeting on Monday with Taxi & Limousine Commission and NYC DOT. COP104 meeting this Wednesday 11/14/2011

We would like to recover it for prints etc, also please be careful with anybody being "pulled over"- I feel its an isolated incident around here but ask all to keep eyes peeled and call on anything that's suspicious. It happened around midnight - if someone gets pulled over they should comply- be calm and respectfully request identification from officers in course of stop if doubt exists that they are Police. Updated crime stats 10/04/2011
For those of you who didn't come to our meeting last night, I'm listing the crime stat highlights. For those of you who DID attend, be advised that Captain Cody said we had two more car thefts. See below. 104th (Maspeth)
The car incidents are not over 08/31/2011
Dick from Winfield reports: Rear tires and rims stolen from Honda Accord (late model) sometime last night or early this morning (8/31/11). Car was parked on 72 St. just south of 51 Ave. The owner, who was visiting with my neighbor, has been in in Florida. The owner must file a report when he gets back. ______________ Richie from Elmhurst heard from his friend in Maspeth: Wanted to tell you that again, this morning, an SUV parked on the corner of 59th Dr and Fresh Pond Rd was broken into last night (or early this morning)- not sure when. The driver side window was smashed and glass all over the street. I don't think the owner of the truck was aware yet because we saw it at 6:30am. I don't know who the truck belongs to either or I would have rang their doorbell to notify them. I think the 104 needs to set up a patrol night watch into the early morning hours when these break-ins occur and then these creeps will be caught, and word will get around so nobody else tries to do the same nonsense. It happens on the same exact streets all the time... there is no excuse why we can't have our area patrolled. These are getting to be out of control now and I'm seriously fed up. The 104th sent this over to me. The arrests occurred on the MV/Maspeth border. No telling how far and wide these creeps were hitting but hopefully this will help cut down on the break ins. They were caught with GPS's and were traveling on foot. Pleae pass this on to anyone you think might be interested. ____________ Early this morning at about 3:02 am the 104 Precinct responded to the corner of Eliot Avenue and 70 Street in regards to individuals breaking into vehicles. Upon arrival the responding Officers arrested three individuals: Patrick Jasienowski 18, Middle Village, Nicholas Dangelo 19, Middle Village and a 15 year old Juvenile who resides in the confines of the 112 Pct. All of the perpetrators were charged with 4 counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, 3 counts of criminal possession of stolen property and three counts of petit larceny. The arresting Officer is PO Joseph Verderber Burglary on 65th Place 08/19/2011
